WEBCAST TODAY: 2019 Asia-Pacific Regional Community Networks Summit
This is under way. Not to say it's high-powered but there are not one, but two Internet Hall of Fame inductees on the first panel! It is captioned. Home to over 4 billion people and covering more than 50 countries and territories, Asia-Pacific is the largest and most diverse region of the globe. The region accounts for more than half of the world’s mobile subscriber base, while only 7% of people in the region have fixed broadband access. Connecting the unconnected remains a major challenge for both governments and the industry. Over the last few years, community networks have emerged as a complementary way to connect people and to allow for low-cost, community-driven solutions to be developed to connect people in underserved locations. However, these community-led solutions face a number of challenges that require policymakers and regulators consideration so that they may flourish. Jointly organized by *ESCAP <https://www.unescap.org/>* (Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific) and the *Internet Society <https://InternetSociety.org>*, this multistakeholder dialogue covered technology, best practices, regulations and socioeconomic issues; highlighted community network projects in the region as best practice; and included policy options for infrastructure sharing, spectrum allocation, and universal service funds. *LIVESTREAM: https://livestream.com/internetsociety/apaccnsummit <https://livestream.com/internetsociety/apaccnsummit>* *REAL TIME TEXT: https://www.streamtext.net/player?event=CFI-ISOC <https://www.streamtext.net/player?event=CFI-ISOC>* *AGENDA: https://www.internetsociety.org/events/asia-pacific-regional-community-netwo... <https://www.internetsociety.org/events/asia-pacific-regional-community-networks-summit/agenda/>* *LIVESTREAM PROGRAM (UTC) 7 OCTOBER 2019* 08:00 Inaugural Session 08:20 Plenary 1: Setting the scene – Innovating to connect the unconnected 09:40 Break 09:50 Plenary 2: Community Networks and SDGs 11:00 Break 11:10 Plenary 3: Policy and Regulatory Support 12:15 Break 12:25 Roundtable: Future Prospects for alternative last mile access in the Asia-Pacific 13:05 End *TWITTER: #apaccnsummit https://priv.sh/vYB4jaz <https://priv.sh/vYB4jaz>* Comment <https://isoc.live/11411/#respond> See all comments <https://isoc.live/11411/#comments> *Permalink* https://isoc.live/11411/ -- --------------------------------------------------------------- Joly MacFie 218 565 9365 Skype:punkcast -------------------------------------------------------------- -
