VERTICAL INTEGRATION WG Update
CBUC, Attached is a status report for the VI WG. I invite those members who also participate on the WG to add or comment on this summary, as I may have missed a thing or two. Kudos out to Mikey O'Conner who has taken the role of co-chair and moving the WG forward. Please advise if you have questions. Thank you. Thanks to Berry for providing this update. The only other comment I would add is that the BC members have also held a separate BC-only conference call (and will hold others) during this process to compare notes and better understand the work product to ensure that we are looking at the issues from a BC perspective. Otherwise, I think Berry has provided a good update regarding our extraordinary working group. We are making progress as a result of an extremely active list that is taxing many due to the number of posts per day. I believe that over 1,000 comments (or some such like) have been posted since the WG began its activities, so the pace and scope of the dialogue is something that has never been seen before (as far as I am aware in my decade of ICANN activity). CBUC, As I mentioned in the status provided below, the Initial Comment Period for Vertical Integration closes May 6th. Does anyone object to submitting the CBUC Position Statement created Nov 2009 as our position statement for this current VI period? I suspect that we will require a consensus exercise as the WG completes its efforts in mid-May. If I do not hear of any objections, I will advise Steve to repost on May 5th. Thank you. My bad, I should have included a link to the 08/2009 position statement. I had a hard time finding it until it was pointed out to me right in front of me. One other correction.....the position statement is from August 2009, not November as I stated below. http://www.bizconst.org/Positions-Statements/Position-08-2009_Registry_Regis... Berry Thanks. Will the BC soon be asked to evaluate the 9 VI models presented thus far? Proposals are listed at: https://st.icann.org/vert-integration-pdp/index.cgi?https_st_icann_org_vert_ integration_pdp_index_cgi_vi_resources Do you and the BC team on the VI working group have any favorites among those, or are we sitting on status quo? If no favorites, are there elements of any of these plans that the BC should consider supporting? Hello All, I just wanted to update the list in connection with my statement of interest, in particular with two prospective gTLD applications that I am working with. .VEGAS This application is being pursued by Vegas.com which has obtained the exclusive support of the Clark County Commission. In connection with this application, my professional services have been retained by Vegas.com. .ARAB This application for a . ARAB gTLD is being pursued by the Arab region, namely the League of Arab States, with support from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). In connection with this application, my professional services have been retained by the ITU. There are a number of other prospective gTLD applicants in which I am in active dialog, however, because of confidentiality agreements I cannot disclose those relationships at this time. While I continue to remain actively involved in ICANN's new gTLD policy development as I have been over the last decade, the opinions I express and advocate are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of any past, current, or future clients unless expressly stated otherwise. Best regards, Michael Palage
