BC position on competition, trust, choice v1

Thank you for your contribution, Philip. RNA Partners supports your draft entirely, with one comment/edit regarding the text highlighted in red below. g Differentiation A TLD must be clearly differentiated from other TLDs Is the new TLD differentiated in a meaningful way from existing TLDs? Are the majority of new registrations creating new opportunities for the registrant? What is the scale of defensive registrations? This question will be difficult to answer because many current domain name registrants may well take additional names in new TLDs without knowing exactly what strategy they will use going forward, i.e. it may take a few years to determine which TLDs they will employ as their primary, secondary, etc. Migration will take time. In addition, some entities take names that they may use for marketing purposes at some future point in time, thus further clouding the issue. There are more issues, but I trust that these noted clarify how difficult it will be to quantify a true answer to this question. Thank you, RA Ronald N. Thanks again to Philip for his initial draft. The attached markup builds on Philip's work in proposing these definitions: Proposed definition for Competition in the context of the DNS and new gTLDs: Competition is the availability of multiple suitable TLDs where registrants may seek their desired domain name at reasonable prices and terms. Proposed definition for Consumer Trust in the context of the DNS and new gTLDs: Consumer Trust is the perceived integrity of domain name registrations such that Internet users have confidence that a domain name is held to the advertised purpose and standards of the TLD operator. Proposed definition for Consumer Choice in the context of the DNS and new gTLDs: Consumer Choice is the availability of TLDs that offer competing propositions as the purpose and integrity of their domain name registrants. -- Steve DelBianco Executive Director NetChoice http://www.NetChoice.org and http://blog.netchoice.org +1.202.420.7482

i would add a clause to "Competition" that provides registrants with multiple registrars, in addition to TLDs. On Apr 24, 2011, at 8:59 PM, Steve DelBianco wrote:
