Hello everyone I wanted to follow up from our conversations in the meeting yesterday. I would like to propose that we hold a specific session on transition issues to deal with: 1. completion of our charter which will include the identification of all of the "positions" that require filling in the organisation 2. a timetable for transition which includes elections (refer back to my strawman proposal which I posted several months ago) I think we need at least a half day using the services of an objective facilitator -- the existing ExCom/Councillors should not be in the "chair" for this event. I volunteer to prepare a "background paper" and set of documents that will help us make those transition plans become reality. I would like other volunteers to help. I propose that we have this meeting very shortly -- whilst everything is still fresh from the Sydney meeting to give us enough time to make changes before the Seoul meeting. some of us will be coming together for the NYC session on the IRT, so we need to keep that date and the London date in mind, and work around that travel. My apologies to be out of the room for this meeting. I had obligations to be in a review of the IIC paper, and then in the GAC meeting. However, I've caught up with a few attendees there... We will need to have a methodology that is fair to all members, so perhaps we can't actually have a single 1/2 day event, but perhaps a couple /or three 2 hour sessions... with good remote capability...

Marilyn Thanks for those additional thoughts -- the dates are good ones and I suggest that we work towards two dates as you've described. Of course, everyone could participate in both events (we need very strong conference call facilities and document sharing capability) and we can wrap up the findings in a set of documents and actions. Perhaps we can have a quick 'Poll' from the list about members who are planning to attend one or both outreach sessions. [I've given up on attending HK and Abu Dabai, however]. I would then propose to eliminate the following dates as possible meeting dates:Due to the high percentage of US members [from my review of the list of members on the website], we need to avoid 7/3, which will be a holiday for many in the US. I would propose to put the entire week of 7/10-7/16 OFF LIMITS, due to the two outreach meetings on the four overarching issues. For myself, I am not available 7/24, nor 7/29. August is a much better time to try to get a several hour meeting, if we schedule now, and while I know that many take holiday much of that month, I wonder if I can propose that we try to identify a date early in August as one of the options, at least for the second interaction with the full membership.
Marilyn Thanks for this -- very helpful. I will set up a Doodle poll and we can then save on trading emails back and forward around the two dates you've suggested in the London and NYC new TLDs events. That seems to be when people will cluster. Best wishes. Liz On 24/06/2009, at 7:42 AM, Marilyn Cade wrote:

Liz, I am proposing NOT to use those dates. I am not at all sure that was clear after reading your email. I think it may be very unfair to try to have a face to face meeting unless lots of time is allowed for people to plan. for instance, I can't be in NYC, travel to London for 15th, and then travel back on the 16th. It is a burden for me to fund the travel in any case, and I can't really envision paying for an extra night's hotel for a face to face meeting. And, also, frankly, I can't really afford to donate a full week to just ICANN. I'd suspect I am not alone in that last issue. So, to be clearer -- I don't believe that using a date within the same time frame is really feasible for someone like me, who will most likely have to be at both meetings, and has to travel back and forth very quickly. Hello everyone I have now AVOIDED all the new TLD updates (13 July NYC, 15 July London, 24 July HK) and proposed a series of Fridays. Let's see who is available for what. I agree with Ron that we should be able to do this in a few hours, not days, if we circulate proper documentation first. I also don't think we need face to face -- we can use conference call facilities and document sharing technologies. So, now click on the link and choose what dates suit you best. Note that I think July could be documentation refinement time. http://www.doodle.com/zk5dq75cg4vtw693 Best wishes. Liz On 24/06/2009, at 8:24 AM, Liz Williams wrote:

Hello All: I was wondering if the BC had any comment on WIPO's comments that calls for an administrative process whereby trademark owners can bring a claim against an ICANN accredited registrar? Unlike the current IRT proposal that appears focused on ICANN accredited "REGISTRIES" this process seems to proposal an expanse to ICANN accredited "REGISTRARS" We recommend an analogous dispute resolution procedure for ICANN-accredited registrars. The WIPO proposal for a post-delegation procedure was at first instance intended for registries within the context of ICANN's New gTLD Program, and motivated in part by a perception of converging registry, registrar, and registrant roles in the DNS. That same argument also applies to registrars in their potential relationship to trademark abuse. A recent illustration is the observed conduct of one particular registrar, reported in a WIPO Center letter of April 9, 2009 to ICANN, and the latter's subsequent Notice of Breach. See http://www.icann.org/correspondence/wilbers-to-pritz-18jun09-en.pdf Will the BC leadership be reaching out to develop a constituency position on this recommendation? Best regards, Michael
