Tola's request here is best suited for Excomm to take a decision on, except it's backed up with an outreach plan the outreach committee can evaluate. With what is on the table, there is very little the outreach committee can do on this one.

Chair and Colleague,

Greetings from the City of Abuja.

May I use this opportunity to once again apply formally to the Outreach committee for further consideration.
There has been several discussion as regards background for this request, perhaps I just recap intended activities in the following bullet points:
  • BC meetings and sessions
  • Face to Face working session of the CCWG-Auction Proceeds on Sunday and public meeting on Thursday [2 hours each]
  • Budget Committee Working Group
  • Community Onboarding Program session -- 3 hours, Monday, as second mentee
  • Fellowship coaching - this is providing some of the costs/ICANN Fellowship program to provide hotel room for the full meeting
  • Participating with other Outreach Committee members in the proposed outreach event that Andrew Mack is developing, both in design of the outreach, and on site
Request:

  • Minimum of $2,000 as partial funding (perhaps passed on to the COP directly by the ExCOMM to ensure being listed as BC Funded Mentee)
  • OR - As the ExCOMM considers best.

Thanks for considering,

Best,

Tola

Tola,
Thinking about this a bit more, given the cofinancing you already have and the potential other interest in the out of region crop, i think it’s simpler/easier to go for the $2k. I would urge excomm to approve.

Tola,
Thanks for reaching out, and apologies for not responding earlier.

As I’ve already put in for CROP at San Juan, don’t think what you propose is going to work unless perhaps you apply for the out of region CROP slot and MC takes the COP as originally planned.

Otherwise I’d support your $2k request.

Im on international travel  until thurs but reachable if you need me.

Cheers, Andrew

Hello Andy,

Trust you are good.

You did request I send this mail again to you during the Outreach call and this is the second one. Kindly response so that I can get feedback from the ExCOmm.

Would like to have an idea as soon as possible, so many other plans are hinged on this.

Thank you,

Tola

Hi Andy,

As discussed, kindly find a reminder.

I observed that some SO even have two mentees nominated on COP funding with the Mentor being sponsored via other sources.

So, I was wondering, If Marilyn’s CROP application should just be approved, this can actually work for both.

Thank you.

Tola

Dear BC Outreach colleagues and BC Executive Committee

In the spirit of service, this is a request for partial funding for my attendance and participation at ICANN61, as a coach to Fellows; participation in the Onboarding Project; the CCWG on Auction Proceeds, and BC sessions during ICANN61.

The BC has been given funding support to one mentor and one mentee, but a second mentee is accepted, without ICANN funding.
Marilyn Cade is the approved Mentor, and Arinola Akinyemi is the funded mentee. I am the second mentee, but ICANN requires that the second mentee be funded by the BC, or self funded.

I am also one of the BC's active participants in the CCWG Auction Proceeds, and this CCWG is planning engagement with the ICANN community on site during ICANN61. Participation in the CCWG Auction Proceeds meetings will be an key priority, as well as helping the two other BC participants to brief the BC membership.

Although I cannot fully fund ICANN61, I have been offered ICANN sponsorship for hotel, in return for acting as coach to African Fellows.

I hereby request airfare and support in the amount of $2,000.

The airfares from Nigeria are quite high, and the trip  each way is over 30 hours long, and in some fares, has long layovers, in one case, 13 hours on the return flight, which would benefit from being able to book into an airport hotel, as it is very difficult to spend 13 hours at the airport.

I will self fund the daily expenses personally.

This funding will allow me to join the new Onboarding program, from its inception, as well as to act as coach to fellows from Africa, thus continuing to build the BC's credibility and engagement in the Fellowship Program. I take pride in seeing a Member of the BC good enough to coach new comers, it gives an opportunity to introduce quite a few into the BC.

I have taken note of the review that Omar and Marilyn did of the Fellowship Program and with my Coaching experience, I do agree that often the business nominees in the fellowship program are not qualified to become BC members; however, I think that we should take advantage of the coaching role in the Fellowship Program, so that we build positive relationships with the new fellows, and help them to better understand who the BC is, and its overall contribution to ICANN, as well as actively seek the recruitment, if eligible, of those who identify as business.

Thank you very sincerely,

TS
