I was not aware that we might have funding but it would be very helpful, and I was not aware that there was a window.

I request funding to support my participation, and will have several speaking slots, and also presence in the IGFSA booth, and in the NRI booth

where I can help to distribute materials from the BC. I also suggest that we have an interview approach for BC members with both Elon University and also with ICANNWiKi.


I apologize I was not aware this was an option, but I request $1,000 in funding. I will bear the additional costs personally.


And commit to a full meeting readout, along with others.

For your quick consideration, nobody else has come forward and the window has closed, meaning we have two people that have requested support for IGF.

I have confirmed that both travelers will have speaking slots where they can reach meaningful audiences and that both still need the assistance (I confirmed with Mark D yesterday, as there was some question) so they would meet the criteria discussed on the BC call yesterday.

As time is short, I will go first with a proposal: I propose that we as OC recommend to Excomm $1k of support for both of the applicants.  That’s not a huge dent in our budget — which we still need to last until mid year next year — but will be enough to help defray some significant part of expenses that would otherwise be borne by two people who are active, regular participants in our work and great ambassadors for the BC.  Both are excellent spokespersons with key global south audiences (and in the case of Mark, a younger audience as well).  At the same time, these amounts also take into account Marilyn’s earlier point that IGF isn’t an ideal venue for us, but is still worthwhile in terms of visibility and outreach.

Would appreciate getting everyone’s feedback asap and am open to other amount ideas if you think these are either too high or too low.

Dear Members of the Outreach Committee,

After a year of focused Outreach activities in Brazil, it is clear that our efforts have started to pay off. Working together with Nivaldo to promote the BC in near real time in Portuguese, we’ve presented at conferences like RioInfo and Futurecom, and had success bringing in new – and influential – members like ABES. We’ve gone beyond "wanting" more participation from LAC to actually going out there to find it.

I am very pleased to inform you all that I both have a paper accepted for Giganet on the subject of ICANN policymaking, and have also been asked to speak on the panel "WS #90 Achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in a Digital Future: Where Do Youth Stand?".

In these initiatives, I intend to promote the BC among new audiences. As the BC’s youngest regular contributor, it is my wish to encourage a broader range of people to participate in the ICANN and IGF spaces, and to think about the impact that Internet policy can have on their lives as young entrepreneurs, consumers and future leaders.

The panel will be an opportunity to reach a different and quite diverse audience, and start tapping into demographic that have not been explored much yet. I know we want to expand the BC’s impressive accomplishments in diversity, and that certainly includes adding younger members to a team that is every day more balanced in terms of geography, language and gender.

It would be my pleasure to help bring in a new generation of people that one day will have the same pull as Marilyn, Andrew, Jimson or Nivaldo, and I think I’ll have the chance to start that at this IGF.

I have secured most of the funding I need, including lodging and per diem, but am still looking for funds to cover air tickets which will be around 1500 dollars, which I would like to request from the BC.

Tickets are getting more expensive by the day, and I think the opportunity is a worthwhile one which makes sense for the BC given my speaking and my unique place as a young contributor and in a way, a youth ambassador for the BC.

I will be reaching an audience of estimated 60 heads in person + 40 remote (from my previous experience in my 2015 panel, WS225: "Hands-on youth-driven Internet initiatives"), but will be involved in business and youth activities throughout IGF and expect to reach many more participants who could be good contributors to the BC and our agenda.

As you're aware, the 2017 edition of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is scheduled for Geneva on Dec 18-21, 2017.
 
Our effort to secure my participation through budget request was not approved by ICANN for FY18. While I use my funding, I wish to request for a financial support to the tune of $1,500 to defray part of the cost of participation. I plan to continue to push BC positions on most issues for an open, stable and resilient Internet as I speak in a number of sessions and workshops.
