I have no idea who else asked for support for IGF in the BC. Can someone clarify on this?

Even though I am very supportive of the work Mark has been doing so far, I believe that for the future, we would want BC members to use crop funds for these type of events, as attendance does not mean recruitment (Marilyn dixit). In my experience, which honestly, is only limited to Argentina and its participation on the IGF, Argentina business does not really participate (I dare to say the same happens in most of Latin American countries).

(google, facebook, isco, icann, lacnic, and some universities and ONLY ONE company: FIBERTEL and there is no need to travel to IGF to recruit one local company)

Still I have two thoughts in favor of supporting Mark´s request and maybe Marilyn can comment on these two:

1) Maybe for Brazilian companies this is different... we could ask other brazilian members of the BC if there is real business participation this year from Brazilian companies at the IGF which might offer an opportunity for outreach.

2) Also, as far as I understand, Mark intends to reach to youth audiencies which I believe is quite an interesting approach to consider.

I think that we need to carefully analyze how this fits BC outreach. As someone that is very familiar with the IGF, and how it works, there is no real opportunity to recruit business, nor to engage in BC outreach during the IGF. We can consider if we want to plan toward asking for funding for something for IGF2018, depending on who the host is.

So, I am a dissenting voice on this, at this point.

I am in full support of this outreach initiative for the BC by Mark, and
support us moving ahead to approve his request for funding and
recommending same to Excomm.

in view of the fact that other requests may come before us for the same
event and judging by the fact that averagely an economy ticket from Brazil
to Geneva is in the region of $700usd, i recommend we approve $!,000usd
(one thousand dollars) as support for Mark's airfare and outreach
engagement at the IGF this year.

where there is no dissenting voice, i propose we move forward with an
approval for this request.
