Puerto Rico doesn't really consider itself part of the global south. 😊

but the disaster situation has a horrible impact on businesses, as you may expect.

There are 750 businesses located in old San Juan, for instance.  There are close to 100,000 businesses located in PR.

A key business focus is on business exchange/development with the mainland... there are PR Chambers in Miami, NYC, Washington, DC, another couple of cities.

There are also several ICT associations, and a entrepreneurs Network industry group.

I am aware that among the companies that were /are very involved in the disaster recovery are some

of the BC's members, but I think they came in through the disaster relief efforts coordinated by the State Dept/FEMA, so don't know if you know if your company is among this ..

Apologies. I only learned about this this am, in an informal discussion about the implications of SSR of Internet CIR, on businesses, and ability to serve citizens, by governmental agencies. '

Not suggesting we mention that, but just a mention, in case it is referenced.

But I thought it interesting to learn more about the importance of business exchange with the US mainland.

Subject: [Bc-outreach] agenda ideas

All,

What I have below is based on the original program discussed with Pablo.

Welcome on behalf of the Chamber and on behalf of BC — Claudia

Quick overview of BC outreach  + thanks to Pablo — Andrew

Anything they want specifically to hear about, or share with us about the situation of the PR private sector community — Pablo  + other Chamber leadership

Discussion of ICANN system + the role of business — Marilyn? Barbara?  + a newer member from Africa and/or Latin America, talking about the experience of smaller/global south players

Key issues being currently addressed by the BC — Steve?  Jimson?  Marie? (based on their roles in Excomm)

Their recommendations about reaching their members during the week and possible longer term collaboration between the Chamber and BC — PR Chamber reps

Open discussion

I think if we play our cards right there will be plenty of space for participation and the names on the agenda are just suggestions.  Please tell me if I shouldn’t call on you.  Key is that we keep it flexible as we don’t know how much time they’ll have — and want to be as interactive as possible. I can do some very light moderating to keep us moving.

Thanks for any further suggestions and see you tomorrow at 3.

Andrew

PS — Jimson, I think you’ll have newsletters, so appreciate your bringing a few copies.
