I volunteered to work with Lawrence and Omar on the overview of what might be of most interest -- they are real veterans on this, from their own perspectives when they first started deciphering the ICANN agenda and I have done this over many years. We might have to copyright it as it might become so popular that ... [that was a joke] but it really fits into our Onboarding project.

that segment can be informal, however and need not take up a lot of time. It might include however, a sort of pointing out key folks who will be attending who can be onsite contacts.

I have suggested that we not appoint a single person, but identify a few who are attending different sessions and that way, the person already attending, can share their expertise with the newcomer interested in that session. It might take a little matchmaking but I would not expect more than 8-10 attendees if history is prologue.

All,

Just a quick note following conversations with Jimson and Marilyn’s excellent comments.

Agree with MC: any Outreach Committee members present in Joburg should be on the agenda if they’re comfortable with speaking — if only so we can get them visible as ambassadors as well as subject matter experts.    Very much like the idea of having a “this is what you might want to attend” session and have new members of the group contribute to that — really good idea.

For tomorrow on this one, I think we need to:
  • Finalize the venue + cost — JO’s recommendation is fine by me and thanks to the team for looking into this
  • Finalize our speakers — so we can get from Chris the additional hotel/per diem
Steve DelBianco will be there — no need to fund additional — and has agreed to speak.  I can reach out to Denise if she hasn’t been contacted yet.  Alice is a go per Jimson.  We will need to finalize the others, especially the ICANN folks and agree who will be reaching out to each.

Coming together!

Andrew

I am attaching an updated version of the proposal and yes, I made some significant suggested changes in Jimson's earlier excellent proposal.

Please recall that on our call, I assumed the role of updating and editing and making some changes.

Here they are!  with apologies but CSTD ate my life! Jimson and I had a really sort of bizarro week last week at the CSTD WG Enhanced Cooperation and this week at CSTD continues as a tough negotiating session just now is opening up.

Please provide your comments by Friday morning to the full outreach list.

A few of the changes:

I added in a 3-4 minute overview [by me] as I was here at the beginning so to speak, so that I can recognize that ITA was part of the WITSA family that collaborated on international consultations related to the creation of ICANN itself, and I volunteered Omar, Lawrence and myself to prepare a 'what you might want to participate in during ICANN59'. I added myself in to explain that, but happy to defer to someone else. I see that session at the end as 3 minutes: WE worked together to highlight some of the sessions you may find especially useful. We welcome  you to also ask for help or explanations from any of us, once you are at ICANN and are feeling a little lost in the different sessions.

The thing we need to do now is to confirm the funding request.

Jimson, I think that we need to also contact Chris Mondini to confirm that he can commit to the requested funding.

Will you do that?

Or do you recommend another approach.

Marilyn Cade
