Tola, very helpful comments.

Can I ask for other comments today, so I can update our draft.   I know how busy we all are...

Other information:

If you are not watching African IGF, and Jimson's address, I will find it and forward it. We are very fortunate that one of our BC Officers is recognized as an expert from the global south, and received such a welcomed opportunity as a major speaker. I say this, as I know he will not promote himself.

He has received this honor now for a few years. We as the BC benefit from this, and I wanted to thank Jimson.

Taking the time to prepare and then travel for so many days of time commitment impacts business, as all of us from SMEs really understand.  I hope all of us will celebrate Jimson's visibility at the African IGF.

And consider how we can replicate this in LATAM, and in Asia-Pacific.

welcoming other comments to add to Tola's.

Colleagues,

Let me commend Jimson for setting the stage with a crisp comment and Marilyn for the edits.

I feel comfortable with the comments but just to add that on Position 4: ICANN Meetings usually have rooms for registration but perhaps we request that ICANN retrieves and send to respective SO/AC after each meeting. This may be misleading in two ways:

  1. While interacting with Newcomers and Fellows, I observed that quite a few switch interests after attending different constituency meetings, feeling more at home else than they had registered for the meeting.
  2. Some may not have the opportunity of returning for meetings and the interest will be gone.
  3. Some have conflict of work / personal choices to make.
  4. There is this other tiny challenge of some misunderstanding the objectives of SO/AC

To this end, SO/AC might have to define internal diversity criteria with which to work with once the statistics come from ICANN. If possible, So/AC might as well forward to ICANN what constitutes contents for face-face or online participants.

Thanks.

Tola

WITH APOLOGIES, IF I LEFT ANYONE OFF WHO VOLUNTEERED TO COMMENT:

Dear BC colleagues
Thanks for Jimson for kicking off comments, and to Steve for also providing the link to the initial BC comments, which I think are still quite relevant.

I worked from Jimson's initial comments, and provided some additional comments. I haven't seen comments from other BC volunteers, but apologize if I missed any such comments.

I also include [with thanks to Steve for the reminder] the initial response of the BC, which many of us contributed to, at that time here as a link, and suggest we may want to add it as a background comment:

As Steve has noted,
we are running late on this submission.

My comments added to Jimson's key points do the following: first, endorse and support the recommendations, and then:
-note that ICANN will need to be pragmatic about its commitment to translation and interpretation, but may need to do
more when translation is about the IANA functions.
-noting that the BC does a lot already but that human and financial resources are limitations to making information available in all UN official languages/and beyond.
-diversity is also about enabling participation from different sub regions/regions in events that ICANN organizes, or that are related to ICANN, where ICANN is participating

All BC member comments are welcomed, of course, and with apologies, as a volunteer to drafting,if  you can provide them within the next 24 hours, we will still be late, but we can then send out to all  BC members.

I suspect we all are just overwhelmed with other work, but special thanks again to Steve and and Jimson.
