INPUT REQUESTED: BC Draft fact sheet - requested by COB on Friday, 21 April
Dear BC Outreach team: Attached is the draft BC fact sheet for your review. We have tried to make it as neutral as possible in relation to dates (e.g., Spring 2017 or ICANN59), so it can be reused at various events throughout the year. Please let Jimson or I know what input/revisions you would like to make. Ideally, we would like to receive your input by the end of this week, if possible, so we can pass the revisions on to the BC’s graphic designer prior to the next outreach event. Thank you in advance for your input. Kind regards, Chantelle
All, A few quick thoughts: 1. I’d never start a discussion with how complicated the subject is — let’s start with the opportunity: to work with some of the world’s leading companies and consultants to chart the future of the internet representing the voice of business. (They’ll know its complex soon enough!) 2. I’d take out about 1/3 of the text. Bullet points and white space will make it easier on the eye and more approachable for the new user. What we have is fine, but I do think it can be more direct and perhaps a tiny bit less comprehensive — again with an eye toward getting people in the door. 3. Q: How much are we assuming from our audience? How much do we want them to already know about ICANN. If the answer is that this is for anyone from biz, I’d suggest we front-load the “about ICANN generally" stuff — perhaps in a column on the left hand side. 4. The graphic on top right should reflect the wider diversity of domain names I think, given the new gTLDs if that’s possible. 5. In terms of the second page, I’d take these out of the question form and put them as statements… e.g.: Help the Private Sector continue to lead in charting the course of the internet through ICANN. 6. Of the 4 questions, the first one seems general and the last 3 seem like they’re asking the question “are you like this”. I might separate them out — making the last 3 interest areas of something of the sort. Nearly everyone nowadays uses a website for their business, so maybe we’d like to recast the 3rd bullet. So in terms of content, maybe 4 sections: * Context: About ICANN and the BC * Broad BC goals * BC Members care about * How the BC works in ICANN Finally, I’d add one piece — how you as a new member can contribute/get involved. Hope this is helpful. Happy to contribute to edits next week if there’s interest.
