BC Outreach as Session Event @ AfICTA Summit 2017
Dear Outreach Committee Members, The above subject matter refers. The BC is invited to conduct an Outreach as a session event during AfICTA’s annual Summit which is scheduled to take place November 7-9 in Abuja, in conjunction with eNigeria powered by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications. This will further BC engagement with more than 30 African nation members of AfICTA towards increased awareness of the BC/ICANN mission and objectives. Attached is the proposal for the outreach as I look forward to your positive consideration. Kind regards, Arinola Akinyemi (Ms) *CEO** (OMAR VENTURES LIMITED & DIGISPHERE INVESTMENT LIMITED)* *Founder, DigiSphere Center for Digital Creativity* *Board Member, Africa ICT Alliance (AfICTA)* *www.digisphere.com.ng <http://www.digisphere.com.ng/>*
A BC outreach during e-Nigeria is most welcome. This is one of the biggest IT events in the country with robust participation from the private and public sector. Can more insight be provided around the program of the day and how the outreach itself would be structured. I would also like to know who the beneficiaries of the 1 Out of region travel support and 2 in-region travel support would be. Reason being that the outreach is just after ICANN 60 so if the persons are travel funded by ICANN to Abu Dabi it's possible to have ICANN travel extend their tickets to Nigeria while the BC cover the per Diem cost. This way we may still have the BC CROP travel slot for future use. Lawrence. On Sat, October 7, 2017 7:37 am, Arinola Akinyemi wrote:

Below are responses to the clarifications you seek: 1. The outreach is a session. More details can be found at www.aficta.africa/summit2017/schedule <http://aficta.africa/summit2017/schedule>. 2. Beneficiaries are a. Out of region support CROP use is for an out of region delegate from BC Outreach b. The 2 in-region CROP would support i. Waudo Siganga based in Kenya ii. Laicana Coulibaly from Cote D'Voire. 3. Local arrangement will also be made to support Markus Eke (BC Member based in Enugu, South East Nigeria to participate at the event. Hi team, I know of the event, so no need to explain value there. Can you help me get precision on what exactly we’re asking in terms of support? I think it makes sense to see us spread our CROP support out among more than one event, but it wasn’t clear to me what the proposal is covering. Thanks, and apologies if I’ve missed it in an earlier email. Andrew, we just did an event in Latin America, and I have not seen any feedback yet from that, so hesitate to comment on how it went. ... I know you spoke remotely, so perhaps yo that was not CROP, as we had not had our Outreach Strategy posted in time. So, we have still five, if I count... I expect that Omar may request CROP to attend the WITSA meeting in India, but that is within his region. If we reserve one for Panama for Latin America/Caribbean, that would still mean that we can support the proposal, if the attendance is justified. As Tola, Ola, Lawrence, and Jimson are all local, we have a very good base of representatives to build upon, to reach other businesses, and governmental representatives from Africa. ________________________________ From: bc-outreach-bounces@icann.org <bc-outreach-bounces@icann.org> on behalf of amack <amack@amglobal.com> Sent: Monday, October 9, 2017 10:03 PM To: Arinola Akinyemi; Lawrence OlaWale-Roberts Cc: addconsortium@digisphere.com.ng; bc-outreach@icann.org Subject: Re: [Bc-outreach] BC Outreach as Session Event @ AfICTA Summit 2017 Hi team, I know of the event, so no need to explain value there.

Hi team,
I know of the event, so no need to explain value there. Can you help me get precision on what exactly we're asking in terms of support? I think it makes sense to see us spread our CROP support out among more than one event, but it wasn't clear to me what the proposal is covering. Thanks, and apologies if I've missed it in an earlier email.

Reason being that the outreach is just after ICANN 60 so if the persons are travel funded by ICANN to Abu Dabi it's possible to have ICANN travel extend their tickets to Nigeria while the BC cover the per Diem cost. Marilyn, I do support the program and use of BC funds to support. I know how effective these summits have been. Re the CROP slots, my sense is that given the presence of so many local BC reps (and such a strong local Nigeria team) and given the limited number of slots overall, I’m inclined to favor saving one more of the two local slots for Latin America, because we have much less presence in LAC and there are two LAC ICANNs coming this way. Also, it was unclear to me — is the team suggesting an out-of-region delegate attend? If so, again, given the strength of the local team, I think we would do better to hold this spot for LAC. I apologize for not having responded to this particular part of the conversation earlier — we had a death in our family and it has thrown my last couple of weeks upside down a bit. Happy to discuss on this list, and I do absolutely support the program. thanks, Andrew, and my sympathies for your family. All of us understand the loss of our loved ones and know how challenging this can be. I look forward to reading the meeting summary from the meeting that you spoke at in Latin America. I had hoped to have remote participation but must have missed that? Latin America is indeed new frontier for the BC, but we have tried, and tried, and tried to organize outreach in Latin America. I did that at a WITSA meeting; Gabi did that as e-instituto. We lack the kind of regional ICT alliance that AfiCTA provides for Africa, although, we have tried. You will note that I suggested that we reserve one slot for Panama for CROP, and IF we get a well developed proposal from within the region, we can use our leadership program two attendees from the region. We began our outreach in Costa Rica, when I brought in the local ICT members to a social event with the Board and us. Then into the breakfast. We have held a few other events. We met with Mexican business also when the WITSA WCIT was in Mexico and arranged for speakers from ICANN [and BC] to speak although there was no funding for my attending and speaking. Let's not deny real opportunities for future events that might happen, depending on where ICANN meets due to other challenges. And, really, the BC has funds to provide support to the good opportunities. We don't need CROP, in fact, we funded this event as BC. We are fortunate to have a very good bank balance, that frankly, we need to spend down and doing outreach is our best strategy, plus hiring a part time policy support staff so that we can free up and make the ExeComm more open to other roles. Dear Ola I support the BC Outreach and offer a couple of suggestions. You are very generous to offer this greatly discounted sponsorship to the BC. I know that organizing a major event is both very time consuming, and very expensive. I have a couple of suggestions: BUT not to add to your costs, but that the Outreach Committee undertake some additional work to support BC Outreach during AfiCTA Summit and eNigeria. We should customize and improve our Fact Sheet: this cost should be absorbed by the BC budget, but the content will need some contributions from the Outreach Committee: I suggest that we update the two page fact sheet to give a new and interesting story and also reference some things we have done already -- so, a paragraph about Durban ICANN, where AfiCTA presented an award to the ICANN CEO/President; then on the back page of the two pager, let's make major changes -- have 2-3 sentences from our existing BC African members, a couple of BC members who are identified as doing business in Africa and whom you should be asking for sponsorship, such as Facebook, Google, [I will look at the membership of BC for others doing business in Africa on a large scale] then, also from 3-4 ICANNers: I suggest we invite Chris Mondini as a speaker on site but also have a short insert from him about e-friction; In the testimonials, we could ask Pierre as VP from the region; also a couple of other great friends and allies, and also that we perhaps invite a statement from Steve Crocker, the Chairman of the Board, recognizing his long standing to SSR and to ICANN. We should also reference the ICANN African Strategy, which Jimson has been an active contributor to. The front page should be a story about Africa as a growing contributor to the world's economic growth, and also reference a few business opportunities, and we can ask Chris Mondini to help us with a couple of paragraphs from their ongoing e-friction work. Jimson and I might also be able to get a statement from UNCTAD regarding e-trade. Then, we can have a column: Why business needs to speak up, and how to do that by engagement with the Business Community. And, Jimson and I can draft a paragraph or two about why we, as business, need to engage with governmental ministries to collaborate on policies that are business friendly, and also accountable to the users of the Internet. On the back page, we don't need all the names of our officers. That doesn't really matter. What matters is a message about Why You Should Join the BC and follow its work at ICANN. As we have just concluded ICANN60, we can have a box with the next 6 meeting slots. Finally, maybe we can discuss inviting also a business leader from Libya, Morocco, or Tunisia, so that we can grow the presence of business from North African countries in ICANN. ________________________________ From: bc-outreach-bounces@icann.org <bc-outreach-bounces@icann.org> on behalf of Arinola Akinyemi <jolakin69@gmail.com> Sent: Saturday, October 7, 2017 7:37 AM To: bc-outreach@icann.org Cc: addconsortium@digisphere.com.ng Subject: [Bc-outreach] BC Outreach as Session Event @ AfICTA Summit 2017 Dear Outreach Committee Members, The above subject matter refers.
