1. ICANN relationships
- GAC has decided not to join this group as a chartering organization but group has invited interested individuals.
2. WSIS+10 Review HL Meeting Related Activities
1) Preparatory process for the UN GA High-level Meeting on Overall WSIS+10 Review.
- ICANN participated in the First Preparatory Meeting of Member States (UNGA) on July 1 & the informal interactive WSIS Stakeholder Consultations on July 2 in New York.
- ICANN staff assessment was that relatively successful diverse expression of views was possible.
2) Contributions to a UN (DESA) ‘Non-paper’ that will be developed into the final Outcome Document for for the December UNGA WSIS+10 HL Meeting.
- ICANN has submitted its responses before the July 31st deadline.
- 61 submissions from governments, civil society, technical and academia, private sector, and Intergovernmental Organizations
- The Russian submission that proposed to ‘gradually’ transfer ICANN role to UN was highlighted
- The first draft of the Outcome Document is expected at the end of September
3) Discussion on analysis of the contributions to the ‘non-paper’.
- It was proposed that it would be a useful exercise for the group to analyze the submissions along certain dimensions such as ‘IGF’ mandate, ‘ICANN’ reference, etc.
- Discussions regarding the list of dimensions to be analyzed will be discussed during the August 19 meeting of the ccwg-ig
