Hi Gabi,

Unless we are aware that there is an alternative candidate waiting in the wings, I am concerned about the short deadline as it may well not give potential candidates enough time - for example, they might wish to discuss whether or not they should stand with other people and they may also need time to get agreement from their Boards.

Rather than set the deadline to fit with our q&a session and find that we do not have a candidate by then, I suggest we should open for a longer period.  I hope this would also avoid the embarrassment of multiple calls for candidates, which would be taken by some to indicate a lack of support for the ccNSO.

Kind regards,

Lesley

Dear Councillors,

As you know, the Nomination Period to the ccNSO Council ended on Tuesday, 6th October. By that date, all regions  had received valid nominations.

Following the nomination period, the nominees are asked to formally accept their nomination.

Unfortunately, one of the nominees, Maria Antonieta Chavarria, .cr (nominated for the LAC region, term ending  March 2019) could not accept her nomination. See email below.

This means that the LAC region does not have any nominee for the Council term, ending March 2019.

In the past, in similar situations (when a region did not have a valid nominee by the end of the nomination period), the ccNSO Council once decided to extend the nomination period for all regions (2008: http://ccnso.icann.org/about/elections/election-report-12dec08.pdf), and in two cases, to extend the nomination period only for the affected region (2011: http://ccnso.icann.org/about/elections/election-report-27oct11-en.pdf; 2013:
http://ccnso.icann.org/about/elections/election-report-16dec13-en.pdf

Basing on this, I, as Nominations Manager, therefore suggest to extend the Nomination Period to the 18 October for the Latin American Region only

In case there are any objections to this suggestion, I would be grateful if you could let me know by the end of Tuesday, 13 October. If no objections received, I understand that the proposed way forward has been approved.

I know the given timeline is extremely short, but as we hope to be able to present a Latin American candidate at the scheduled Q&A session for ccNSO Council Nominees in Dublin, we need to find  compromise solutions.

Kind regards,

Gabi

Dear Gabriella,

Thanks a lot for the opportunity, but I can not accept the nomination to the ccNSO Council, because the .cr Board does not allow me.

Best regards,
