Dear Councillors,
The voting in the elections for the position of ccNSO council member – Asia-Pacific region will close later today, on Tuesday, 3 December
2019 (23:59 UTC). This e-mail is a head-up, that the quorum requirement will most likely not be met in this first round.
Therefore, a second election round will likely need to be held among the eligible ccNSO members from the Asia-Pacific region. The second
round of the elections will be without quorum requirement. Voting in the second round – if any - starts on Fri, 6 December 2019 (00:01 UTC) and closes on Friday, 13 December 2019 (23:59 UTC). Based on the results of the first round, an announcement will be
sent to the community on 4 December (AM UTC).
Background
In accordance to the applicable rules, two candidates from the Asia-Pacific region were nominated, seconded and have accepted their nomination.
Consequently, an election was held among the ccNSO members of the Asia-Pacific Region according to the timeline previously agreed upon by the ccNSO Council.
As only one candidate was nominated and seconded within the nomination period for the African, European, Latin American / Caribbean and
North American regions, no elections needed to be held in those regions. Since at the close of nominations there are no more valid candidates in the aforementioned geographic regions than there are seats on the ccNSO Council available for those regions, then
the nominated candidates shall be selected to serve on the ccNSO Council.
The Election Report as prepared by the Election Manager, will be discussed at the next ccNSO Council meeting, scheduled for 19 December.
