Interesting read and good to hear they are thinking about the process to resume in person meetings.

The more I think about it, the issue will be that some parts of the world (at the moment US, LAC) are obviously problematic both for any large scale in person meetings or participants from those areas to travel to meetings in say New Zealand or Latvia :)

So, what the paper doesn’t address is the extent to which we can have a large in person meeting at all prior to the virus being effectively suppressed on a global basis. Because if you exclude say US participants from in person attendance at a global meeting, is that really a global meeting?

If you follow that through, the depressing consequences might be no in person meetings at the global level may be for another year at least.

But that might be the right course of action.

Secondly I say plan to be pessimistic, if suddenly the virus disappears then I for one will gladly jump on a plane to attend an in person meeting. Assuming there’s any airlines still in business by that time!

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you actively participate in the virtual sessions of ICANN68, especially, in the sessions of the ccNSO Members Meeting. Although remote participation has always been a part of our meetings, the main focus was on face-to-face interaction. During the past year or two we significantly increased the number of webinars for ccTLDs and broader community. It helps us to reach out to those registries and their representatives who are not among frequent ICANN meeting attendees or even have never attended any face-to-face meeting. We will continue these efforts and will provide a platform for virtual interaction between ICANN meetings. However, today many people mentioned how much they miss face to face interaction. So, what’s the plan? Will we ever see each other again?

ICANN has prepared a draft proposal for phased return to face-to-face meetings (attached). Please have a look and let me know if you have any comments/suggestions regarding the draft.
