Dear Lesley, all,
This particular project was already on its way when I joined SIDN in 2005 and it has been puzzling me ever since.
Just so you know, I do not agree with the WG’s recommendations. I think ICANN should chose and use an existing method -such as the ones being used by the UNDP,
UNES or ITU- instead of trying to redesign the world. I am sure that there will be no perfect system that addresses the concerns and felt needs of all, so why not pick an existing one that comes closest.
For territories to decide themselves to which region they want to belong (in this particular case) sounds incredibly silly to me. Moreover, I really doubt if there
is a problem as I wonder if councilors of the ccNSO for instance, really think and decide within the borders of their region only.
To me it seems that the WG is trying (but failing) to solve a theoretical problem with an incomprehensible solution.
Cheers,
Roelof Meijer
