Dear Jordan,
Thanks – looking forward. We are looking forward to an open discussion, and are just making sure we are prepared as well as we can, beforehand, to have the best possible interaction. This is why I appreciate your early heads up on the questions below. All questions are welcome – during the discussion we may even come up with questions ourselves.
About the session itself: Patricio will “facilitate” the discussion from the Board’s side – as to help ensure a good flow of the discussion.
Looking forward
Maarten

Dear Maarten
Thank you for this. We will get one or possibly two other questions to you within 24 hrs. One might be on the priority-setting approach for the ICANN system and how it is evolving since the discussion was raised in Joburg a few years ago.
Do you have leads for the questions already advised in my previous email?
If on the day we get questions 'from the floor' I will direct those to you to answer or to assign on to others, unless you tell me to direct them to anyone else.
bests, and look forward to chatting soon!

Dear Jordan,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the session, and for inviting Leon and me, too. We look forward to contributing where appropriate in this meeting in its (as agreed) experimental setup to see how interaction can be most fruitful for the ccNSO and Board. From the Board’s side, facilitation will be with one of the ccNSO appointed Board members. As you may have seen in the meetings we had earlier this week with CPH and CSG, our responses tend to be primarily from the subject matter expert on our side, complemented by others, where deemed useful.
If other subjects come up on which you would like to talk, please don’t hesitate to share with us, beforehand, so we can make sure to provide you the best possible responses. Alsking you to continue to copy in the Org policy team and Board Ops, as to ensure the best possible preparations.
Looking forward to joining you for our joint session next week!
Maarten

Subject: ccNSO Q&A Session - topics, etc
kia ora (hello) everyone
I'm writing to seek your input for the session coming up at ICANN 70, where ccNSO related ICANN Board members and the ICANN Board Chair and Vice Chair are joining the ccNSO for a Q&A Session.
I have the joy of convening / MCing this session.
This is to the participants and to the ccNSO Council, to ask for your help in identifying any topics we'd like to discuss.
My own questions which I am happy to start off are here. They are just my thoughts. They might inspire your thoughts.
When we resume in-person meetings as the Pandemic fades, we will probably need to change how ICANN meetings work. We will need to use precious in-person moments to bring new participants into the fold, and restore and grow relationships. What are the practical implications for the ICANN meeting strategy - not in terms of frequency, or in-person v remote, but in terms of what we actually do when we are together? Does it mean more time on combined social and working events? Less time on "content"? What are your thoughts?
The ICANN System could be said to suffer from review-itis. In a ccNSO-GNSO Council discussion (last) week, someone flagged the notion of taking a year out. There might be benefits in having the odd year with no reviews under way, to allow the community and org to focus on the work we are all here to do. What are your reflections on the reviews situation?
If you have other thoughts please share them with us by return email.
Also, just a point about the process. We have an hour long slot and we have seven of you. We have the normal challenge of a Board Chair being in the room and people often deferring to them.
If we only speak about the two topics above, we can have each board member with some time to share their thoughts. But if we have more topics, we will have to just be selective.
As such, from the Board members, could you nominate one of you who I can work with to triage 'who will tackle what' on the day?
Finally, for those who have not been part of this session before, I am for an informal and friendly approach, with some time reserved for people to raise questions they think of. Only the time management aspects will see me being particularly firm.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
