Dear all,
Please find included the written updates for the JIG, CRI, DDSA WG and Study Group on use of country and territory names:

Joint ccNSO-GNSO IDN WG (JIG)
The public comment period on draft Final Report on Universal Acceptance of IDN TLD's closed 15 August.
One comment was received ( ALAC Statement) in support of the recommendations of the WG.

The WG will now finalize the report over the next weeks ( revisit the recommendations and adjustment of procedural part).

Once completed the Final Report will be submitted to both the ccNSO and GNSO Councils for discussion and decision.

Contact Repository Implementation Working Group ( CRI)
The CRI is looking into a second, distributed model as mechanism for the Security Incident contact repository. The second model will be included in the Initial report of the WG.
To date the draft of the WG includes, an overview of the funding issues, potential governance models and requirements and background information relating to the incident contact repository.

Joint DNS Stability and Security Analysis Working Group

The WG will submit a Final Report to the participating SO’s and AC’s by Buenos Aires. The Final Report includes a risk assessment framework, based on NIST. The Final report will be accompanied by a letter from the WG with the question whether or not the WG needs to continue its activities. In the view of the working group, the circumstances leading to the creation of the WG have changed considerably ( among others the appointment of Fadi Chehade, as ICANN's CEO and President), "burn-out" of the volunteers, overlap with other initiatives, in particular the Board Risk Framework Committee, and studies they have launched.

To date the leadership of the WG foresees 3 options

  1. Close the WG and disseminate the Final Report among the interested parties.
  2. Continuation as a cross-community WG, in which case a new charter and call for volunteers is needed who have expertise to work on a thorough analysis, using the proposed methodology.
  3. Continuation as ccNSO WG, focusing on ccTLD related risks and mitigating measures.

Study Group on use of country and territory names as TLD's

On 30 August the public comment on the draft Final report closed, and 4 comments were submitted,  one from the government of Greece, the ALAC Statement, a submission from the the Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC) and a submission from the government of Montenegro.

The chair will prepare a summary and analysis of the public comments, and suggestions on amendments of the final report, if any, for discussion by the group.

The goal is to submit the final report to the ccNSO Council in time for its next Council meeting on 8 October 2013,
