On 13 July, I sent to the ccNSO Council list an email sharing some concerns, including concerns expressed by Annebeth, regarding this report. In my email I proposed a Council Statement to address the following aspects:

- Use of 2-character Single Letter, Single Digit Combinations as gTLD strings,

- Proposals and additional work with respect to IDN gTLDs,

- Confusing similarity review under gTLD process.

Our new Councillor from the European region Giovanni volunteered to participate in the drafting team. Although no other volunteers stepped forward, nobody objected to the idea of having a Council Statement.

Therefore, I propose to change the recommendation [34-2018] by amending the Recommended actions (by adding ‘Prepare a Council Statement’) and Impact on ccNSO/ccTLDs (from ‘low’ to ‘medium’).

Summary of request:

This public comment proceeding seeks to obtain input on the Initial Report of the New gTLD Subsequent Procedures Policy Development Process Working Group, which is chartered to evaluate what changes or additions need to be made to existing new gTLD policy recommendations. The document includes materials from the full Working Group and four sub-teams within the Working Group, Work Tracks 1-4. Work Track 5, focused on Geographic Names and the Top-Level, will produce a separate Initial Report.
