Hi Olivier,

First of all: thanks for the hospitality! :-)

I believe the reporting session was already cancelled in New Delhi. I understood the intention was to get a better exchange of views instead of a representative of each group reading a statement.
I agree that this is not the best solution. I found the reports helpful in the way you describe.

As to your second question: I was at that meeting
On a yearly basis CENTR has a short meeting with the board to give an overview of what lives in the CENTR community and to raise a few key issues. The current CENTR Board started this initiative to improve the relations with ICANN that were somewhat troubled in the past.
This is not and was never meant to be an exchange between the ICANN Board and the ccTLD community as a whole. I believe the session we had during the ccNSO meeting on Tuesday morning fits that role quite well.

Topics discussed:
- concerns in the CENTR community that we are heading for an overlap between the ROs work and ICANNs work. The example that was discussed in detail is the ADRP training that was started by APTLD and now taken over by ICANN. (in the meantime this issue is resolved)
- the request for a swift implementation of eIANA (after the testing phase is properly completed and the IANA WG's concerns met).
- the pressure some of our members get from their governments to start implementing .IDN and the growing concerns that ccTLDs applying for an .IDN would be required to enter into a gTLD-style contract. A last point on .IDN was the need to have an open and transparent application process.
- a planned discussion on budget was dropped as our questions had been answered in a different session.

Hope this helps,

Peter

Subject: [ccnso-council] ICANN Paris: heads and tails !

Dear All,

first of all, and as you already all have understood,
that was an honnor as well as a pleasure for the french
community to receive you all in our home country. So was
it for me : after all those years envolved in ICANN, this
meeting had quite a special taste to me.

I had a lot of feedback from ccs that have found this
meeting profitable : lot of work acheived in various
areas of interest for our community, good information
sharing between ccs and with other SO's and committees,
and testimonies of excellent time spent down town in
Paris and around !

Hope you had a safe trip for those that went back home.
All my wishes to those that choosed to take some extra
time in France ( and I know that some of you have :)

This was for the heads of the coin

I unfortunately also have some concerns that I beleive
necessary to express here, and for which I would appreciate
some feedback from my fellows Councillors :

1/ Public reports:

usually, Supporting Organisations & Advisory Committees
report publically to the board about their activities,
this help to have some keys to read the board meeting.
This is an important moment to get a global picture of
what's happening, from other perspectives than the one
you have to focus on for practical reasons. This moment
is a main moment in ICANN process life: just essential
to mutual understanding and to transparency.

For the first time, public reports of SOs and ACs didn't
happened : I would have wished this first time not to occur
   in Paris.

   Question :

   What happened ?

2/ Coordination and communication between ICANN and cc
   community :

I have been aware that CENTR excom had a meeting with
the board of ICANN on Wednesday, June 25th. I learnt
that over that meeting various topics or concerns were
raised by CENTR to ICANN board. Some of those topics
were also adressed and discussed over the ccNSO meeting
or even the ccNSO Council meeting, such as for example
IDN or iana software. The strange thing is that I have
*NOT* heard any of the CENTR representatives raising
their concerns to the cc community.

   Question :

Who has participated to the CENTR excom/ICANN board
   meeting ?
Has ICANN provided any information to CENTR that would
be of interest to the work or actions undertaken by the
ccNSO ( Working Group, Work Plan and so on )?

Any indications or views on that ?

Best,

--
Olivier
