Dear All
One of the primary tasks of the Global Partnership department is outreach and encouraging global participation in ICANN and representing ICANN and the multi-stakeholder model in various international fora. The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is an important example of this work.
The IGF is a platform for discussions on Internet issues, in an open, inclusive, non-negotiating, and non-decision making environment. The mandate of the IGF includes, among other things, to discuss public policy issues related to key elements of Internet governance in order to foster the sustainability, robustness, security, stability and development of the Internet. For ICANN, likeminded governments, the Internet community, civil society, and the private sector, the IGF has been an effort to reinforce the multi-stakeholder approach, and provide something that is open to all participants. The initial proposal creating the IGF was for the meeting to be held annually for 5 years. This is the last year in that 5 year period.
The IGF will be held this week in Vilnius Lithuania from 14-17 September. ICANN staff and Board members will be participating. For those interested the schedule of sessions is available here: http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/2010/WorkshopSchedule_Vilnius2010-v.01Sept.htm There will be remote participation capability. Details on remote participation are available at: http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/remote-participation
Remote participants will be able to follow the meeting taking place in Vilnius by watching videocasts or listening to audiocasts from the meeting rooms and reading real-time closed captioning.
Remote participants will be able to interact with the meeting by sending text questions, using the remote participation platform (Webex). These questions will be forwarded to the panel moderator when he/she opens the floor for questions from the audience.
Hubs are also encouraged to send short pre-recorded video questions or statement (2-3 min) outlining key issues on the local discussion agenda. If possible, hubs will be allowed to join with real-time video message.
The links to access each meeting room will be provided before the IGF. Remote participants should take a look at the IGF schedule available here <http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/2010/WorkshopSchedule_Vilnius2010-v.01Sept.htm> to see the room and the time of the session they would like to follow.
In order to convert Vilnius local time into your time zone, you can visit this website <http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/> .
During the IGF, you can also use social network platforms to take part in the Internet Governance Dialogue:
There are also a series of remote hubs that will be established for the meeting where people can gather and participate. That information is available here: http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/remote-participation/remote-hubs-list
I want to thank Anne-Rachel Inne, Baher Esmat and Donna Austin for assistance gathering this information.
Kind Regards
Kathryn A. (Mandy) Carver
