APTLD did a study in 2007 to determine whether pricing makes a difference.

http://www.aptld.org/bangkokOctober2007/15-APTLD-10-22-2007-FINAL.pdf

The general conclusion was only when prices start high.  There was not enough data to be able to make specific forecast models, but there was a bit of conclusion.

Example.  If your prices are currently at US$100 per name per year, then a reduction to US$40 per name per year will make a difference.

But, if your prices are US$20/name/year, then a reduction to US$10/n/y won't make as big a difference.

The key driver, however, was the performance of the local economy generally and its ICT uptake specifically (as measured by local COM/NET registrations as a proxy).  There's complementary relationships.

Dear All,

Has any ccTLD, or anyone for that matter, done a study on global ccTLD pricing models and the effects of the various pricing models; mainly on growth. We've just revised our pricing model and will keep monitoring the effect. However, it would help if we could have a presentation on this. If I recall well, Nominet has done something some time back.

Perhaps this is a project that the ccNSO, or any regional ccTLD association, could consider (co-)sponsoring?

Regards,
