Dear all,
Margarita Valdes-Cortes’s (.cl) term as the ccNSO representative to the Nomination Committee (NomCom) is now coming to and end and we are therefore looking for another candidate to fill this position.
The NomCom is an independent committee tasked with selecting a majority of the members of the ICANN Board of Directors and other key positions within ICANN's structure - such as the three NomCom delegates represented on the ccNSO Council (see http://ccnso.icann.org/about/council.htm).
Read more about the NomCom’s work at http://nomcom.icann.org/#charge and http://www.icann.org/en/general/bylaws.htm#VII-1
The term lasts for one year, with the possibility to be re-appointed for one more year.
Margarita has kindly provided us with a short note about her time on the NomCom, which you can find at the end of this email.
If you are a ccNSO member and interested in this position, please send me an email.
If you are not a ccNSO member, but still interested in this position – you need to be nominated and seconded by a ccNSO member. The nomination & seconding should be sent to me per email.
The nomination period is closing on the 25th August 2010.
If there is more than one candidate to this position, the ccNSO Council will decide who to appoint.
Many thanks to Margarita for her work on the NomCom!
Kind regards,
Gabi

Note from Margarita Valdes-Cortes
1.-I have to say I enjoyed very much this work, and it really heavy duty
to find people with the will to serve ICANN
2.- I think the ccNSO is under represented, because gnso for example,
have one nomcom of each constituency.
Regards
Margarita
-----------------------------------------------------------
Nom Com yearly started to work after the annual ICANN Meeting
Term is one year, with possibility of reelection for one year more, by
the Council.
We had three meetings: two formal ones after the conclusion of the
annual meeting and the final meetings at the middle of the year (wich is
the final and strong work in order to sellect the final candidates), and
one informal meeting during the first Icann meeting march every year.
The role of the NomCom is to inform and recruit persons (outreach)who
could be interested in participate in different roles that ICANN needs,
such as board members, councils members (ALAC, gNSO, ccNSO).
Adicionally, we evaluate the candidates and propose the names to the
different roles that ICANN need to fill.
NomCom members come from different supporting organizations and
according to the ICANN Bylaws, some are voting and some are non voting.
All members have to sign an NDA, all the discussions are secret and closed.
Every candidate had to fill a Statement of Interest (SOI), before April
every year. The NomCom studies the information and then pre-selects and
discuss about the skills of the candidates.
The main goal, is to find accomplished persons of integrity, objectivity
and intelligence who place the broad public interest ahead of any
particular interests. Core values are: diversity, geographic
distribution and independence.
It is pretty simmilar to a Head Hunting work.
To be able to do their job properly, NomCom members should have been
involved in the ICANN process for several years before joining the
committee.
On a personal note, I was initially skeptical about the real work that
this commitee does, but now I realize that it plays an important role in
seek good people to strengthen ICANN’s multistakeholder model.
