About the Event

Czech history isn’t just about kings and landmarks; it’s also deeply rooted in a tradition of inventiveness, playfulness, and technical skill. We'll meet at a place that tells its own stories – the Lví dvůr restaurant, whose history dates back to 1581. It was then that Emperor Rudolf II ordered the creation of a lion enclosure here for Mohamed, his kindred spirit, whom he was said to have found with the help of astrologer Johannes Kepler.

In this extraordinary space, the past meets modern creativity. The legendary Merkur construction set, dating back to the early 20th century and instrumental in shaping generations of Czech engineers, recalls an era when screws and bolts opened doors to discovery – it was even used by the designer of the first Czech robot.

A musical performance using modular instruments by Brno-based Bastl Instruments will demonstrate that tinkering still thrives in the Czech Republic – now transformed into the world of synthesizers and digital circuits, used by bands like Coldplay and Depeche Mode.

And because Czech playfulness wouldn’t be complete without the art of beer tapping, you’ll also get the chance to try pouring the perfect pint – with proper foam and the skill worthy of a true tapmaster.
