Dear ccNSO members,

This is a heads up about the upcoming call for nominations for Board Seat 12. The current term of Byron Holland, the Director appointed by the ccNSO to ICANN Board Seat 12, will end at the ICANN90 Annual General Meeting.  The nomination period for this position will be open 23 July to 13 August 2026. Only designated Representatives of a ccNSO member, formally designated by the ccTLD manager, may nominate or second.

Byron is eligible for reappointment.  Under the ICANN Bylaws, nominees for Board Seat 12 cannot be citizens of the same ICANN Geographic Region as the current ccNSO-nominated Director for Board Seat 11. Patricio Poblete, Board Seat 11, is from Chile.  Consequently, nominees for Board Seat 12 must be from a country outside the Latin America and Caribbean Region.

On 16 July, the ccNSO Council is expected to appoint a Nomination Process Manager and adopt a timeline for this process, which follows the requirements of Section 10.3 (i) of the ICANN Bylaws, the ccNSO Internal Rules, and the applicable ccNSO Guideline.

A Q&A session with the candidate(s) will be held during ICANN87, in October 2026. In case of multiple candidates, voting will take place in November 2026, following the completion of due diligence checks by an external professional firm. ccNSO members vote through their appointed Emissaries on a per Country or Territory basis.

In line with the ICANN Bylaws and ccNSO internal procedures, the ccNSO Council must formally nominate a candidate by 30 April 2027 - six months prior to ICANN90.

All relevant information about the nomination and secondment process, as well as future announcements, will be posted here: https://ccnso.icann.org/en/about/nominations.htm
