ccNSO-SOPC update
On 24 Feb the SOPC submitted the comments on the ICANN FY21-25 Operating Plan and Budget to ICANN Finance.
A call with ICANN Finance took place on 24 March to go through the comments.
As the international scenario changed considerably from the time the SOPC submitted its comments, during the call ICANN Finance explained that they were working on the report on the comments that was planned to be published on 27 March
on the ICANN website (https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/report-comments-draft-opplan-budget-fy21-25-27mar20-en.pdf) .
The SOPC reiterated their support to ICANN Finance and suggested to delay the publication of the report should the pandemic be assessed as “crucial” to the next 5-year plan.
The report was published on the due date and states “Since concluding the public comment process, the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting significantly the entire world. ICANN expects that its activities and financial position will be significantly
impacted as well.” The report fails to address the input submitted by several constituencies and stakeholders. Giovanni Seppia, as chair of the SOPC, had a mail exchange with the business constituency as they were quite frustrated by the lack of appropriate
feedback.
In terms of the SOPC work, we will organise a call in the coming weeks to discuss the review of the charter, our work methodology and a possible virtual meeting during ICANN 68.
