Dear all,
I am hereby forwarding you a message from the co-chairs of the CCWG new gTLD Auction Proceeds, regarding the availability of the group’s first quarterly newsletter.
Thank you,
Joke Braeken
Dear all,
This is to inform you that the CCWG on new gTLD Auction Proceeds has prepared a first edition of its quarterly newsletter. You will be able to consult the August 2017 edition of
the newsletter on the group’s wiki space: https://community.icann.org/display/CWGONGAP/Newsletters
The group’s newsletters are aimed at keeping chartering organisations and others interested up to date regarding the current status of the work by this group.
About the CCWG new gTLD Auction Proceeds
The new gTLD Program established auctions as a mechanism of last resort to resolve string contention. Most string contentions (approximately 90% of sets scheduled for auction) have
been resolved through other means before reaching an auction conducted by ICANN's authorized auction service provider, Power Auctions LLC. However, it was recognized from the outset that significant funds could accrue as a result of several auctions. As such,
these auction proceeds have been reserved and earmarked until the Board authorizes a plan for the appropriate use of the funds. Board, staff, and community are expected to be working together in designing and participating in the next steps addressing the
use of new gTLD auction proceeds. It should be recognized though that these proceeds are to be considered as an exceptional, one-time source of revenue.
The CCWG was chartered by the Address Supporting Organization (ASO), the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC), the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO), the Generic Names
Supporting Organization (GNSO), the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC), the Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC), and the Root Server System Advisory Committee (RSSAC) to propose the mechanism that should be developed in order to allocate the
new gTLD Auction Proceeds. Following approval of the proposal(s) by the Chartering Organizations, it will be submitted to the ICANN Board for its consideration.
