The human rights ICANN should take into account at a minimum when planning a meeting are those that attendants need to attend a meeting. Freedom of speech and lack of any sort of discrimination are simply essential and therefore non-negotiable in my view. I am sure I am missing others, but a simple list with binary checks seems a good idea.

I would
like us to also raise the choice of Abu Dhabi as a venue where women do
not enjoy the freedoms of other places and where the females attending
may have issues walking the streets by themselves etc.
I say that ICANN needs to embrace a culture of human rights. We are NOT the United Nations which must overlook such things in a misguided over-respect for national sovereignty.
But the Board will have some excuse. They always do.
Cheers,
Chris

I know I sound like a broken record on this topic, but this is an aspect of what I mean when I say that ICANN needs to embrace a culture of human rights. We are NOT the United Nations which must overlook such things in a misguided over-respect for national sovereignty.
There is, of course, a spectrum, but we should definitely prefer to hold meetings in places like Canada and Germany than in North Korea.
At heart, ICANN is just a California private sector company. And it must ensure the safety and well-being of all its participants equally, and in particular to ensure respect of what we in the UK called 'protected characteristics'
But the Board will have some excuse. They always do.
And the community will, in all probability, ultimately tolerate it, like we did with the visas.

Hi all
Following on from Peter’s topic on location for ICANN meetings, I would
like us to also raise the choice of Abu Dhabi as a venue where women do
not enjoy the freedoms of other places and where the females attending
may have issues walking the streets by themselves etc. Are things like
this not considered when selecting a meeting place.
Thanks

Hi all,
A couple of points that may be relevant:
- What’s next on protection on country en territory names now
that CCWG is preparing their final report and will come to conclusion
that it is not feasible to come up with an overall approach? Is the
Board inclined to keep the status quo from the applicant guidebook or
will it yield tot he wishes of the GNSO?
- Location for ICANN meetings: given all the trouble with
visa for ICANN57, how will the Board address this to avoid this in future?
Best regs,
Peter

*Subject: *ccNSO Meeting with the Board : Topics (Constituency Day)
Dear Katrina,
We are looking forward to seeing you in Hyderabad!
As you know, over the years, the Board has heard from many Groups on
the need to make the Constituency Day interaction between the Board
and Constituency/Stakeholder Groups at ICANN Public Meetings more
effective for both the Groups and the Board.
To do this, Board Operations collects, ahead of the Meeting, the
questions that each Group would like to bring to the Board.
We would appreciate receiving the questions/topics that ccNSO might
want to discuss with the Board during the meeting currently scheduled
on Monday 7 November. The deadline for submission of these topics
is *_Wednesday 26 October_*.
We are as well taking this opportunity to share with you the Board's
questions to your Group, for discussion during this meeting .
QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD TO THE ccNSO :
1. What do we (Board and ICANN organization) have to do to make
the transition work for you?
2. What do we (Board, ICANN organization and community) need to
do to advance trust and confidence in what we do?
Best,
The Board Ops team
