Dear Katrina and all,

I worked closely with Deborah in promoting the fellowship program in Puerto Rico for ICANN61.

Moreover, I have discussed with her initiatives to increase awareness and participation.

As a NomCom member, I have seen first hand the limited amount of aspiring candidates who truly understand the complexities of the interdependent interactions between the SOs/ACs.

Thus, a fine tuned fellowship program can serve as a the first step to inspire and develop ICANN's future leaders.

Consequently, I would like to nominate myself to participate in the committee.

All the best,

Dear Colleagues,

Here’s information about the Committee we are asked to appoint a member to by 10 September; I mentioned the announcement on the ICANN website during our call.

It is nice to receive this information from ICANN by email, too, isn’t it?

Kind regards,

]{atrina

Dear Community Leaders,

Over the past few months, we have received a lot of substantive input and guidance from the community in response to the ICANN Fellowship Program review. The recent public comment proceeding was the last step in the process of soliciting feedback. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your leadership and support during this process and to inform you of key findings, available resources and next steps.

Key Findings
There was strong support for action in the following areas:

  • Increase SO/AC involvement in selecting and mentoring fellows
  • Develop and gather metrics to understand and measure program impact
  • Focus on active engagement in policy
  • Enhance capacity development of fellows

In response to this and as a first step, we have issued a call for nominations for each SO/AC to identify one (1) individual who is to serve a two-year term on the new ICANN Fellowship Program Selection Committee by 10 September 2018. The responsibilities and expectations associated with this role are outlined here. The same announcement asks for your guidance on outreach & promotion targets, which is to inform our plans for identifying the most appropriate events and fora to reach out to audiences with the desired skills and backgrounds. We are very grateful for your continued support of the program and look forward to receiving your feedback and address any questions you may have.

Available Resources
A number of resources are available to help provide clarity about the process and ensure all of the input has been reviewed and addressed accordingly. These include:

·        Staff Report of Public Comment Proceeding

·        Community Input Status Report Matrix

·        Flowchart of the New Program Approach

·        Slide Deck Outlining Key Changes

A blog that provides additional details can be found here.

Next Steps
Shortly after receiving SO/AC nominations for the ICANN Fellowship Program Selection Committee, we will work with the newly established group to review & revise, as appropriate, several important elements to reflect the community consultation:

  • Program application
  • Application scoring criteria
  • Overall process of selecting qualified applicants

In the coming weeks, we will be seeking your support in identifying mentors from your respective communities (one for each SO/AC) who will serve one-year terms and will work closely with program selectees to develop their capacities, provide insights into the ICANN community and its workings and overall guidance and support.

Thank you again for all of your support and guidance as we work together to build a Fellowship Program that meets the needs and wants of the community.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Best,
Ergys Ramaj
Public Responsibility Support, ICANN
