Hi Lesley,

I don’t think a blanket approach is necessary, unless that’s what the ICANN bylaws require.

Having checked the ccNSO nominations page, it’s clear that a region like Africa had more than a single appropriately seconded nomination. To me, I think then the way forward should be for those regions which did not have the problem/s you reported to go ahead and hold elections.

In the case of those regions (Europe, Asia Pacific & Latin America) that had a single nomination which was appropriately seconded, we should then take that their nominee are elected into the council. It’s not clear to me why we should subject them to an extended election when the nominations are clear and valid. We should take it that these 2 regions have concluded their elections.

As for Africa, the ccNSO secretariat should call an election to decide between the 2 nominees. I don’t think there’s a need to extend the election period. Only the NA region should have an extended election round because of the very unfortunate development there.

Subject: [ccnso-council] Council Elections Extension

Hi,

Unfortunately not all candidates for the Council election were both nominated and seconded by the deadline on Friday.

The ccNSO election guidelines do not cover this eventuality, but they do permit a Chair to make a decision on the best way forward. In the circumstances, I have decided that we will extend the deadline by one week.

I trust that this will be acceptable to Council members.

Kind regards,

Lesley
