Hello Alejandra,

Looks like we have been able to set the records straight and also made the point clear that "you don't shave someone behind them" (African Proverb). It will be beneficial to participate in the program to be able to set the record straight and also be able to provide insight into what ccTLDs are doing in the various aspects and also allay the fears of ALAC.

I think we also, should work closely with them (if they allow) to shape such discussions in the future.

Beneficial to participate in the discuss.

Thanks and have a good day.

Dear all,

Yesterday I met with ALAC representatives to express my concern about a session they intended to have on ccTLDs. The session was titled "Policy Session 3: Public Interest: Is the commercialization of ccTLDs a threat?"

The session was an attempt to explore if commercialization of ccTLD registries affects Internet end users. Trying to understand the possible impacts of commercialization on consumer protection, competition, the stability of the DNS and, in a broader sense, on the public interest. After an introduction to the history of ccTLD policy, the intention was to answer two questions: 1) What is the impact of ccTLD registries commercialization on consumer protection, competition, and the stability of the DNS? 2) Does the commercialization of ccTLD registries affect Internet end users?

As a result of the discussion, the topic and the goal of the session changed to: "ccTLD Governance Models - Testimonies from At-Large end users". In principle it builds on and uses the ccTLD models session from ICANN68 (Not-for profit, for profit, government, and academia run ccTLDs) and previous work we have done with ALAC on the different ccTLD Governance models. As this is an ALAC session, they will look at some people within their community who each have experience with one of the models from an end-user perspective. Potentially there will be a follow-up during ICANN72, but that depends on a lot of variables.

Before committing to anything, I told them I would circle back to you to find out whether you agree that we participate in the re-focused session. If so, I want to ask Katrina to provide the overview of the models, as she did all the preparation for the previous sessions.

Please advise, preferably by tomorrow.

Best regards,
Alejandra
