Dear Fellow Councillors,
It is an honour to be proposed
for the position of ccNSO Council Chair. Please find below my candidate
statement:
Some
of the Challenges Ahead
·
2011 onwards will bring challenges to ICANN, the ICANN
model and Internet governance plus significant changes to the DNS market. The
scope of the ccNSO should not change, but the environment in which we all operate
could become increasingly difficult. The challenge will be ensuring that the
ccNSO remains cohesive and continues to be relevant and valuable to ccTLDs, by
sharing information, developing understanding and by acting together on relevant
issues.
·
Our current ccNSO Chair has been able to devote
considerable time to the role, much more than any successor will be able to.
The challenge will be to successfully implement the agreed restructure of the
work of the ccNSO Council to enable duties to be shared amongst the new Chair,
Vice-Chairs and ccNSO Councillors. The new Chair must be able to count on the Vice
Chairs and each and every Councillor, in order to ensure that the ccNSO remains
a success. We will also need to organise ourselves effectively, carry out our
work efficiently and diligently ensure that we are able to devote sufficient
time to the tasks concerned.
·
The ccNSO already has established relationships with
much of the ICANN community and the current Chair has good relationships with
the SO/AC Chairs. The challenge will be to retain and enhance those
relationships, to develop new relationships and ensure effective communication.
The new Chair must also ensure that the ccNSO communicates well, both
internally and externally.
Why you might not want to vote for me
·
If you are unwilling or unable to devote the time and
energy to play your part in the agreed restructure
·
If
you might be annoyed by someone
who is very organised and who likes meetings to start and finish on time
·
If you would prefer a less opinionated and determined
person as Chair
·
If you would prefer someone who has lots of chairing
experience.
Why you might want to vote for me
I have been a ccTLD manager
for many years and have been able to build close working relationships withmany of you and many others in the ICANN community. Having been a ccNSO
Councillor since 2007, I have seen first-hand the organisational work that goes
into making the Council function and I have worked closely with the ccNSO Council
support team. During my time as a Councillor, I have been committed to the work
of the ccNSO and have served on the IANA WG and the SoP WG, was Chair of the
ccNSO Participation WG and I have been ccNSO Vice Chair since September 2010.
In addition I have been involved in numerous ccNSO informal working and
drafting groups.
Regards,
