Subject: [ccnso-council] FW: ICANN FY 12 Security, Stability & Resiliency Framework

Dear Councillors,

Please find below an email that I have received from Patrick Jones regarding the production of ICANN's FY2012 Security, Stability & Resiliance plan. You will note that the planned comment period will complete at the end of May.

Having discussed this matter with my Vice-Chairs, we have agreed that:

  1. It is desirable that the ccNSO should make a formal response to the SSR Plan for FY2012
  2.  That the best way to organise this during the timeframe will be for a small drafting team to attend the briefing call and produce a ccNSO comments paper for consideration by the Council - prior to sharing on the mailing lists etc and submission to ICANN.
  3. We will add this to the agenda for the Council call on the 10th May for a progress update.

I hope that this way forward will be acceptable to you all, but if there are any queries then do please let me know.

Kind regards,

Lesley

Subject: ICANN FY 12 Security, Stability & Resiliency Framework

Dear Lesley,

First of all congratulations on your new role as ccNSO Chair. I am coordinating ICANN’s Security team. In this capacity I have updated last years Security, Stability and Resiliency Plan (FY 11 SSR Plan) into a new format for FY 12.

The FY 11 SSR Plan was late in circulation (published in September and acknowledged by the ICANN Board at the Cartagena meeting in December 2010). In Cartagena, I heard many comments that the next version of the SSR Plan should be more streamlined, less redundant and describe clearly areas of ICANN activity vs ICANN awareness and observation.

The updated version, the FY 12 SSR Framework is a more streamlined version in Powerpoint & PDF format. While this document is separate from the overall budget, it is intended to provide the community with a clear understanding of ICANN’s role in SSR, priorities in FY 12, and an overview of emerging threats and risks (even if these are areas where ICANN is merely an observer). It is also the intention that this document is aligned within the timing for delivery of the FY 12 ICANN Operating Plan and Budget for publication prior to the ICANN Singapore meeting. There will be a public comment period open on the new Framework (the start date is dependent on receipt of translations, hopefully by the last week of April) through the entire month of May.

I am in the process of finalizing the document for translation and would be happy to do a briefing call at a time convenient for the ccNSO i.e. ccTLD community on the FY 12 SSR Framework if you would find this useful.

Best regards,

Patrick
