Dear All,
During its meeting at ICANN83 on Sunday, 8 June, the
ICANN Board
formally adopted the Review Mechanism Policy developed by the ccNSO.
Once implemented, the policy introduces a fast, low-cost
and fair review mechanism for specific decisions made by the IANA Function Operator (IFO) related to the delegation, transfer, revocation, and retirement of ccTLDs. The policy has been developed through the ccNSO Policy Development Process (PDP).
Key Objectives and Highlights
The primary objective of the policy is to provide ccTLD managers,
as direct customers of the IANA Naming Function,
with an independent review process for specific IFO decisions. This policy ensures that affected parties have a clear pathway to challenge
- or seek clarification on
- IFO decisions that directly impact them. The
review outcome will not be binding.
Scope and Applicability
The review mechanism is specifically available to existing ccTLD Managers and applicants for new ccTLDs, who are directly impacted by an IFO decision regarding a ccTLD. The
implementation timeline and further operational details of the review mechanism will become available in the coming months.
