Dear Cherine:
In response to the November 2017 Board resolution pertaining to the use of emoji as second level domains (See: https://www.icann.org/resources/board-material/resolutions-2017-11-02-en#1.e ), I am pleased to inform you that ccNSO Council has agreed to undertake the following actions:
- Include a session on the ccNSO meeting agenda, and also in Tech Day, where SSAC will be invited to explain the risks on use of emoji as second level domains to the broader ccTLD community;
- Start process of establishing a study group, similar to the study group on wildcarding (https://ccnso.icann.org/en/workinggroups/wildcardwg.htm), which effectively resulted in limiting the use of wildcarding by ccTLDs;
- Check the references in the current Fast Track documentation and overall recommended policy to understand if and how references to relevant RFCs are included and need to be aligned.
On behalf of the ccNSO Council,
Katrina Sataki,
Chair
