Background

The Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) has organized various sessions on Domain Name System (DNS) abuse in recent ICANN Public Meetings. Country code top-level domain (ccTLD) managers and others shared their experiences with respect to mitigating DNS abuse, focusing on what ccTLDs do nationally and regionally. During ICANN72, the conversation shifted to focus on exploring the potential role of the ccNSO itself. Both ccTLDs and other stakeholders suggested activities the ccNSO could undertake to complement existing work being done by the community.  The ccNSO Council will now develop a plan which will be presented to the ccTLD community in early 2022. The goal is to launch the ccNSO activities aimed at mitigating DNS abuse by ICANN73.

Recordings of the ICANN72 ccNSO session on DNS Abuse have been posted here: https://72.schedule.icann.org/meetings/GDebBq5NbTCHRBvCq

Subject: [ccnso-council] Join Us! - DNS Abuse Workshop - 28/Nov 12:00 UTC

Dear All

As you may recall, the ccNSO organized a session at ICANN72 on DNS Abuse to understand what the ccNSO should do or should not do with respect to DNS abuse, in addition to what is already happening at the local and regional ccTLD level. (Recording, transcript, and presentation can be found here [72.schedule.icann.org]).

Those in attendance were asked to express their sentiment (via series of Zoom polls) towards the suggestions provided by the panelist, which helped to rank them.

In follow-up to the discussion and ranking, the ccNSO Council is organizing a workshop on 28 November at 12:00 UTC.
