Hi All,

Jordan is, I believe, correct on the length of time involved.  While the process matches the requirements, as it should, I am left to ponder how we have ended up with an election cycle considerably longer than most nation-states.

Saying that, I suspect it is a series of unintended consequences more than anything else.

Hi Bart and also Joke

Thank you for your responses.

I’m clear what the constraints are on us. I think you have done a lovely job of developing a timeline that complies with them.

I just think that the requirements are unreasonable and should be changed, that’s all.

There is no practical reasonable reason I can see why the ECA step needs to be so early. I think it is a part of the bylaws that should probably be changed. Of course there will be all sorts of reasons why they are what they are, but the impact isn’t good enough in my opinion.

That said, I don’t think doing so is any kind of priority. It just offends me that the process creates such a difficult spot for nominees and incumbent board members, as Nigel highlighted to us last year.

Hi Jordan

If you agree I’ll explain the background of the timeline on the call, but already want to point out that the canddaidate needs to appointed by the ECA 6 months prior to the AGM the nominee takes her or his seat on the Board,

Kind regards,

Bart

Thank you Bart - it seems to me we need to take a look at the bylaws timeframes in this process, since it once again leads to a nomination for a Board member starting in July, when they do not take their seat until the following October. Still feels too long to me.

I do appreciate the approach sketched out to at least defer the Q&A later than ICANN 75.

Bests
