Summary of ICANN Fellowship Program
Dear All After reviewing the available materials, here are the highlights of the new ICANN Fellowship Program: 1. The program's goal is to strengthen the diversity of the multi-stakeholder model by creating a broader base of knowledgeable constituents from underserved and underrepresented communities around the world. 2. *Fellowship program process <https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/draft-fellowship-program-process-27aug18-en.pdf>* : 1. *New Program Process* 1. Outreach & Recruitment: SO/ACs define targets for skills/diversity 2. Application: ICANN Learn certification of completion requiered. 3. Selection: Committee of SO/AC appointees define and revise committee and applicant criteria. 3 fellowship limit. Diversity prioritized. 4. Pre-meeting preparation: Mentors paired with fellows. ICANN Learn courses for first-time and returning fellows. 5. On-Site Responsibilities: Fellows attend sessions identified by mentor. Fellows engage and network. 6. Post-meeting requirements: Fellows submit a report on activities and future plans. Mentors and SO/AC work to involve fellows in policy activities. 2. *SOs/ACs tasks*: 1. Define target for diversity skills (every 2 years) 2. Nominate Selection Committee (every 2 years) 3. Nominate Fellowship Mentors (annually) 3. *Selection Committee tasks*: 1. Review Selection Criteria (annually) 2. Select Candidates 3. *New Program Numbers*: Future fellowship cohorts will consist of 45 participants per ICANN meeting, a 25% reduction from years past. Of the 45 slots, seven (7) will go to Fellowship Mentors. We will uphold and enforce the rule which states an individual can only serve as a fellow a total of three instances. 1. Members of the Selection Committee shall serve for a total of two years (6 application rounds) 2. Selection Committee members are expected to devote a significant amount of time to the Fellowship Program; if a member chooses to resign, the relevant SO/AC will nominate a replacement for the remainder of the tenure 3. When the Selection Committee changes (every two years), former Selection Committee members are encouraged to share their experiences and insights with the new Section Committee members 4. Selection Committee members will be supported by ICANN staff as needed, via conference calls and email 5. Selection Committee members may not serve as Fellowship Program mentors 3. Nominate a Fellowship Mentor (annually) 1. Here is a suggestion for eligibility, based on the ccNSO on-boarding document draft *[1]*: 1. Is fluent in written and spoken English. 2. Possesses good understanding of ICANN and specifically the ccNSO, their mission and model. 3. Contributes actively in the ccNSO community. 4. Has the willingness to share knowledge and experience in the ccNSO environment 5.
