Dear Katrina, Perhaps we should approach .MX and Nick Tomasso to find out about any local health reports and ICANN concerns before we respond. I could make the approaches given my experience with ICANN cancelling a meeting (ICANN57). Zika virus at the time. Dear Community Leaders:
As you know, ICANN org is actively monitoring developments worldwide concerning the novel coronavirus (2019-nCov). We take the health and safety of our staff, Board and community members very seriously and wish to do the right thing to continue to ensure that everyone remains safe and informed. In this regard, you may have heard that some international conference organizers are, like ICANN, monitoring and evaluating the locations and timings of their events. Earlier today, the GSM Association (GSMA) announced that it was canceling the Mobile World Congress (MWC) that had been scheduled to take place in Barcelona from 24-27 February 2020.
In light of these developments, I write now to ask whether you have heard any concerns from amongst your members or other community members about traveling to Cancun for ICANN67. While we have no immediate plans to cancel or reschedule the Cancun meeting, it will be very helpful to hear the community's feedback so that we can take it into account in our planning. As such, please let me or David Olive know if you or your group have information or concerns you would like to share. In the meantime, please refer to this blog post by ICANN org's Vice-President for Security Operations for information on how ICANN org is handling this important matter: https://www.icann.org/news/blog/an-update-on-the-coronavirus-and-its-impact-....
Thank you.

Pablo, I don't think that the issue is the local situation in Mexico. The issue is that so many people from so many places, including those affected by coronavirus, come together, hug, kiss, talk, eat and drink. Personally, I think that no virus has a chance against tequila but that's not the answer ICANN org is looking for. No community member is forced to go to Cancun. Unfortunately, that is not the case with the staff. If we are to ask anyone, those should be Bart, Joke, Kim, Maria and other staff members we depend on. CcTLDs I spoke to, are not afraid of this virus. But then, they were not afraid of Zika either. Regards, ]{atrina On 13 February 2020 19:18:07 CET, Pablo Rodriguez <pablo@nic.pr> wrote:

I’d say no concerns at present about travelling to Cancún. When I heard this rumour I was amazed that it was even being considered! Greetings Katrina and Colleagues, As most if not all of you know, both APTLD77 and APRICOT49 are being held next week in Melbourne AU. Respective conference details may be found at http://www.aptld77.com.au/reg/ and https://2020.apricot.net/. APTLD has about 130 registrants (approximately; Leonid can correct me), making it the largest conference gathering since it’s founding in 1998. We are somewhat hobbled, in that our Secretariat staff is prohibited from entering Australia, as they are based in Beijing. My understanding is that AuDA is going to step into the breech there. I do not know the size of APRICOT, but my understanding is that it’s at least 500 or so, but certainly not as large as recent ICANN meetings. APRICOT has a “Health and Safety” page at https://conference.apnic.net/49/travel/safety/. These two parallel conferences are still on, both of them attracting attendees from various countries in Asia much closer to the apex of the pandemic than either Mexico, Europe, or North America. So in a way, I would suggest that attendees to these conferences are going to be “lab rats” to provide real-world conference related transmission data prior to the upcoming Cancun meeting. FYI, I am leaving for APTLD Sunday morning, albeit over some objections/concern from family. I apologise for the length of this. At the end of the day, I am trying to answer your original question regarding concerns about the Cancun meeting. My answer is three-fold: 1. We don’t have any real data on the potential risk to Cancun conference attendees at this point; 2. We will likely gain some information regarding potential risks for the Cancun meeting from the APTLD and APRICOT conferences; 3. Three weeks from now may present us all with a very different landscape with respects to this pandemic. My primary concern, as expressed by Katrina in a related post, is with regards to our able ICANN org staff that we depend on. I cannot in good conscience require, compel, or expect them to pitch up if they feel they are in potential danger; we as a Community have done this a couple of times in the past, and it troubled me greatly then as well. So yes, at this point in time I intend to pitch up in Cancun, subject to what I might come home with from APTLD77. I leave you with a couple of useful URLS: You can track the pandemic particulars at http://gg.gg/coronatrack. The latest travel entry restrictions may be found at https://www.iatatravelcentre.com/international-travel-document-news/15802262.... Let me update the situation in Korea, which is close to China and have been extremely affected by the situation. The Korean government took the situation very seriously and have meticulously tracked the movement of the people that have been diagnosed with the disease. Koreans who had been in the Wuhan area have been flown back to Korea, quarantined for two weeks and are about the be released after thoroughly checking their physical condition. Most of the people using public transportation are wearing masks. As part of the extremely cautionary measure to prevent any further spread, the government has advised delaying the new semester for about two weeks (from March 1 to March 15th). Thanks to such extremely cautionary measures, the following is the situation in Korea as of today. 1. There have been 28 confirmed cases of people diagnosed with the disease. Fortunately, all of them have reported symptoms similar to a flu, and many are recovering. 2. There have been no new confirmed cases of the disease since the 10th. 3. 7 of the 28 who had been diagnosed have been released from the hospital because they were diagnosed to have been fully cured of the disease. This means that 21 people are still quarantined off, recovering. 4. Apart from the confirmed cases, 692 people who have been reported as possibly having contacted people who have been confirmed to have the disease(ex: happened to be at the location that the people with a confirmed diagnosis had visited - such as having taken the same bus from the airport) are still being quarantined while they go through tests to determine whether they have been infected. 5. The government is still keeping a diligently watchful eye out on people traveling in to Korea. All in all, the situation is Korea seems to be easing off. Dear Colleagues,
The only concerns I heard from EU ccTLDs were that ICANN cancels the meeting. Any suggestions what to respond? Thanks!

Further update from Korea. 1. As of 16:00 today, the number of potentially infected people being quarantined and screened has decreased to 535 (down from 692 this morning). 2. The total number of potentially infected people(people who had been in the same room with one of the 28 infected people) screened was 7,214 but 6,679 were released (thus, 535 remaining) because they were determined not to have been infected. The government took extensive measures to track these potentially infected people. 3. The number of people with the disease remains at 21, with 20 of them in stable condition. Hope everyone stays safe. Thanks. - kind regards, - Young-eum Sent from my iPhone

However, having experienced the benefits of taking extreme cautionary measures, I am thinking of maybe participating remotely if the situation in Korea worsens.
