Re: [ccnso-council] [ccTLDcommunity] Summary ICANN59 TLD-OPS Standing Committee Meeting
Dear All Regarding the LAC region it is very difficult for a significant number of ccTLDs to attend ICANN meetings, even more so when they are held outside the LAC region. On top of that, the technical staff are not the ones sent to these meetings, so the probability of them being able to attend this particular workshop is very little. LACTLD does a yearly technical workshop where huge efforts are made to gather the technical staff of as many LAC ccTLDs as possible, to share experiences and have capacity building workshops. This is the best event of the year to approach this particular community (to let them know who the people in this TLD-OPS group are and why they should trust them and join the list) and share workshops like the one in Copenhagen. Dear Jörg,
I understand your concern and agree that the purpose of those meetings would need to be narrowly focused specifically on improving security of ccTLDs and especially cooperation between ccTLD operators. This is based on the Anti-DDoS workshop we held in Copenhagen, and we'd like to continue to hold those kinds on events. General (DNS) hosting security indeed had enough, and better, venues already.
That goes for most of the changes we would like to propose. We'd like to broaden the scope of TLD-OPS a bit wider beyond the current mailing list and also include anything that improves security and corporation between CcTLD operators, without overlapping too much with existing platforms or overburdening the committee.
Best, Erwin

Dear Jaques, TLD-OPS members,
thanks for the summary of the ICANN59 TLD-OPS Standing Committee meeting.
According to (1) "charter amendments", I am sceptic about at least adding "hosting security related workshops" to the charter. I fear that we obstruct security-related discussions by spreading them into all different kind of meetings and formats. Already in place are IETF, RIPE, OARC, CENTR tech, CENTR security, ..., TLD-OPS.
Is there a need for more? Shouldn't we reinforce the existing formats or try to concentrate?
best
Joerg

** Summary ICANN59 TLD-OPS Meeting **
The TLD-OPS Standing Committee held its face-to-face meeting at ICANN59 in Johannesburg on Monday June 26, 2017.
The most important topics we discussed were:
(1) TLD-OPS Charter ( https://ccnso.icann.org/workinggroups/tld-ops-standing.htm). The standing committee will review the TLD- OPS charter and propose changes to support an evolving role. We will be looking at including in the charter functions such as sharing security events, hosting security related workshops, developing maturity models and high level security frameworks for ccTLDs.
(2) We had a good discussion on the role of TLD-OPS in regional workshops when the audience is broader than just TLD-OPS members. AfTLD, LACTLD and APTLD have separately expressed interest for TLD-OPS participation in their next meetings. Jacques and Erwin met with Andres Piazza (LACTLD) and folks from .CR, .CO and ICANN to better understand the requirements for participating in a DDoS Mitigation Workshop in Costa Rica on the afternoon of Monday August 28, 2017.
If you are interested in participating or helping organize the upcoming LACTLD DDoS mitigation workshop, please let us know.
(3) Joined: .ir (Islamic Republic Of Iran), .gp (Guadeloupe)
(4) Please note we had a chair transition from Cristian Hesselman (.nl) to Jacques Latour (.ca), and added Brett Carr (.uk) as a new TLD-OPS Steering Committee member.
Our next meeting will be a conference call in late July timeframe.
