ICANN dragged itself into US domestic politics when it took the position -- and publicly at that -- that it was going to get the transition done at all costs before the Republicans could stop it. Taking such a partisan viewpoint was bound to make enemies, and we are now reaping the rewards of that short-sighted approach. Fadi's behaviour in China is just an (entertaining) sideshow to that.
