All, Following the council call, below is a summary of what I have been told over and above anything that has been published. Hope it's helpful. "When you arrive in Nairobi, it will look very similar to many other cities you have visited . reasonable immigration and customs processes at the airport, readily available taxis, people hawking their wares on the ride to the hotel, a reasonable amount of security as you enter the hotel. The city itself is vibrant . pedestrians on the street, traffic, restaurants, shops, hotels, etc. Crime is a serious issue in Nairobi and is not to be taken lightly. You should not walk the city streets after dark under any circumstances. Women should be able to safely walk the streets during the day. The convention centre grounds are gated with vehicle access controlled by security. Entrance to the building itself is controlled by security personnel and metal detectors. Security in and around the convention centre is high since it is set amidst many government buildings. The local host will be providing shuttle bus transportation between the convention centre and downtown hotels. ICANN will try not to schedule meetings at the convention centre after dark. Travellers must use caution . never walk the streets at night . use hotel-arranged taxis . keep taxi windows closed..don't wear jewellery..always be aware of your surroundings. There is a low, although not insignificant, threat of terrorism in Nairobi . http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_923.html."
