Draft letter to the Board on introduction Single Character IDN TLD's
Dear all, Included is the draft for the letter to the Board on progress regarding the introduction of Single Character IDN TLDs as prepaerd by the drafting group. The letter addresses the following points per council meeting 20 December 2011: * Support for the introduction * Asking for clarification on: * timing of introduction * consultation of the SSAC, GAC and ALAC * issue of pictographic and alphabetic scripts. Moving forward As you may have noted the GNSO Council adopted the proposed “JIG letter” under the condition that the ccNSO would adopt the proposed letter as well. As this did not happen the GNSO will not submit the proposed letter to the Board. In order to move forward, Lesley will send the draft letter to the GNSO letter before any decision by ccNSO Council, with the intention to seek support from the GNSO Council for this letter, given the JIGF is a joint ccNSO-GNSO Working Group. Kind regards, Bart
Dear all, As a follow-up to yesterdays email, could you be so kind to send any comments on the draft as soon as possible (by Thursday) or, alternatively indicate if you agree with the proposed letter? Thanks and kind regards, Bart On 1/16/12 5:56 PM, "Bart Boswinkel" <bart.boswinkel@icann.org> wrote: Dear all, Included is the draft for the letter to the Board on progress regarding the introduction of Single Character IDN TLDs as prepaerd by the drafting group. Dear Fellow Councilors, Bart, I fully agree to the content of this letter. One point: I don't understand how we want things to go forward after this letter is sent to the Board. Maybe that's because I didn't attend the Council meeting on 20 December. The meeting minute doesn't make me understand that. For example, - do we intend to make GNSO wait until our letter to the Board is satisfactorily answered or - do we intend to let GNSO solely express to the Board that they support the JIG letter and we will send to the Board another letter endorsing the JIG letter, once we are satisfied with the Board's response to our first letter asking clarification or - do we intend to let GNSO solely express to the Board that they support the JIG letter and we will not send another letter endorsing the JIG letter I think we need to express our intention (which of above) to GNSO and Board. I hope I am not derailing. Regards, Hiro On Mon, 16 Jan 2012 08:56:13 -0800 Bart Boswinkel <bart.boswinkel@icann.org> wrote:

Dear Hiro, all, Probably I was unclear in the email. The intended steps are: - The council members, express support for the letter or suggest changes (as soon as possible) - Lesley will share the letter with the GNSO Council with the intention to seek support. - The ccNSO Council formally adopts the letter, and sends it to the Board ( preferably supported by the GNSO Council as well, as the JIG is a joint WG). As to the letter as proposed by the JIG: This letter will NOT be forwarded to the Board. The GNSO Council adopted the letter, but only if the ccNSO Council would adopt the letter as well. As the ccNSO Council did not, the GNSO Council will not send it. Hope this answers your questions, Kind regards, Bart On 1/17/12 6:10 PM, "HiroHOTTA" <hotta@jprs.co.jp> wrote:
