RE: [ccnso-council] Nairobi meeting
I'll be going as well. I personally concur with Chris. However, I respect the decision of each organization/individual since it has its own view on the balance of values & risks, that may be based on each country's public request/recommendation. Hiro PS. I will skip meetings on Sunday 7 March, since I'll arrive at Nairobi at night on Sunday. On Tue, 16 Feb 2010 06:01:10 +0900 (KST) Young Eum Lee <yesunny@knou.ac.kr> wrote:
I, for one, will be going. The Korean Ministry of Foreigh Affairs and Trade has issued a level 2 warning (on a scale of 1~4, 4 being the highest security threat) for the slum areas of Nairobi, and is telling travelers to be careful.
However, since this is a security issue, I believe individuals should make choices based on individual decisions.

All,
You will have seen the various announcements about security issues that have arisen regarding the Nairobi meeting. The latest is at http://nbo.icann.org/meetings/security-information-12feb10-en.htm.
I thought that you might be interested to note that Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) has sought advice from the Australian Threat Assessment Centre (ATAC) on the advisory the US Department of State provided and has indicated that ATAC has assessed the threat as non-credible, and therefore has decided to not upgrade its travel advisory for Nairobi.
When I am asked (as I have been several times) what the ccNSO’s view is on continuing with the Nairobi meeting I have said that we remain committed to having the meeting and supporting our African colleagues. This is still my view but it would help me enormously if council members would confirm that this is their view as well or let me know if you feel differently.
Cheers,
