Information Sharing NEW: ICANN Publishes DNS Abuse Trends DNS abuse is one of the most important discussions for the ICANN community to have and ICANN is the right place to discuss issues related to technical abuse. However, depending on what you mean by DNS abuse, some types may not fall within ICANN's responsibility as the technical coordinator of the DNS. ICANN is not the Internet's content police. Instead, ICANN org has a program focused on DNS security threats, which adhere to ICANN's technical role and capabilities. Read more. NEW: ICANN's 2022 Middle East DNS Forum to Take Place Virtually in May ICANN org's eighth Middle East Domain Name System (DNS) Forum will take place virtually from Monday-Wednesday, 16-18 May 2022 and will offer a closer look at the evolving DNS ecosystem from a technical and policy perspective. It will have a special focus on regional challenges and opportunities for growth. Read more. NEW: How the ICANN Community Helped Pave the Way for a More Multilingual Internet ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. But what exactly is required to support a global Internet? Most of the world's population does not speak English as a first language or write their language using only the letters a-z. In fact, only slightly more than a third of the world's population uses the Latin script and an even smaller number uses only the letters a-z. Read more. NEW: ICANN Updates UNR Registry Agreement Assignments Status In January, ICANN org published a blog to provide clarity related to the community-developed gTLD Registry Agreement assignment approval process, and context related to the proposed assignments of gTLD Registry Agreements by UNR Corp (UNR). NEW: ICANN Request for Proposal: IMRS Cluster (Africa) Colocation ICANN org issued a request for proposal (RFP) to identify one or more vendors to provide a secure colocation space, one in Egypt and one in Kenya, for two new ICANN Managed Root Server (IMRS) clusters. As part of the service provided to the Internet community, ICANN operates one of the 13 root servers of the Internet, the IMRS, also known as L.ROOT-SERVERS.NET. Installing the two clusters will result in increased root server capacity for the African region and improve the resiliency of not only the IMRS, but also the entire Root Server System. Read more. NEW: Initial and Overarching Assumptions Subsequent Procedures Operational Design Phase The ICANN org SubPro ODP Project Team is currently working on drafting a full set of Assumptions and ICANN org will share them on the SubPro ODP Page as they are ready. While some assumptions are still being discussed and refined internally, the team has selected a set of overarching assumptions to share with the Community. REMINDER: ICANN Org's Draft Planning Prioritization Framework (Version 1) Now Available ICANN org recently published the initial draft of its Planning Prioritization Framework. Since FY21, planning at ICANN has been one of 15 Operating Initiatives included in ICANN’s Operating Plan. As part of this initiative, the draft Planning Prioritization Framework is designed to help ICANN prioritize its work within the planning cycle in a manner that is transparent, inclusive, and efficient.
