Here is a summary of the proposed changes compared to the previous session proposal circulated. Unless there are any concerns raised by the end of the week (Friday, 30 January, COB), the suggestion is to move forward with implementing this proposal.

The session will now be held in block 3, and will have a 75 min. duration, as suggested by Eberhard
Sameer Gahlot, Research Associate at NIXI has confirmed his availability, and so did Arnt. As Regina will not attend ICANN85 in person, would you be available to chair the session, @Abdalmonem Galila ?
UAC previously requested to accommodate additional speakers. With a 75 min. session, one additional presenter could be included. See the proposal below. @Vadim Mikhaylov does this work, from your perspective?
Regarding the discussion, the proposal would be to focus on how AI can be applied to address UA challenges.

Please note: The UAC meeting initially scheduled for tomorrow, 28 January will be deferred by one week (same time). The planning team and confirmed presenters will be invited to join the session in Mumbai, as well as next week’s planning meeting.

As this is the Tech session, I’d suggest to replace me by Vadim Mikhailov (infrastructure consultant at .ru/.рф registry) as he is a technical expert and will better fit to this discussion. On AI aspects or others.

I would like to suggest the following potential topics/speakers for UAC + Tech Day (Monday 9 March, block 4), for your consideration:

It would be good to ask NIXI or another representative from the host country to make overview of their EAI project in Rajasthan with the main focus on the current status/how many EAI addresses are in real use now/what problems have been faced/what results have been achieved and other possible details. This project could be a good example of how to implement EAI with government support.

A new Request for Comments has become available in online RFC libraries recently. It concerns EPP Protocol and EAI thematic. As variant, we could ask one of its authors to talk about the main scope of this new RFC.

The Extensible Provisioning Protocol (EPP) does not inherently

support internationalized email addresses because the specifications

for these addresses did not exist when EPP was developed. This

document describes a command-response extension that adds support for

associating an additional email address with an EPP contact object.

That additional email address can be either an internationalized

email address or an ASCII-only address.

Presentation on the latest technical developments re UA readiness with the main focus on the world’s big tech companies (Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc.) + the most popular open source software (particularly, manufacturers of mail software with EAI support) + manufacturers of hosting panels (Cpanel, Plesk, etc.) could be provided by Arnt Gulbrandsen arnt.gulbrandsen@icann.org probably. He is from the ICANN technical staff. Although, I believe it’s better to check with Arnt if he is providing any similar update at another ICANN85’s Prep week or the meeting sections. If not, then this update would be very useful for the ccNSO and more broader ICANN community.

We also discussed that the UA Roadmap for registries and registrars, developed by ICANN (https://www.icann.org/en/announcements/details/icann-publishes-ua-roadmap-for-domain-name-registry-and-registrar-systems-25-01-2023-en), could be of some interest for ccTLDs, so ICANN staff could cover this topic, too. For this, we could at least ask Arnt to shortly remind about this document for ccTLDs during his speech, if there is no enough time for a separate speaker at the Tech Day section Block 4 (60 min).

As a variant, the UA roadmap could become a basis for a separate technical webinar/training by ICANN for ccTLDs, gTLDs and registrars on how to make their registries/registration systems UA Ready…just thoughts.

If we want to cover ccTLD or gTLD cases re UA Readiness, I could suggest our Cyrillic IDN TLD .РФ story. We have implemented EAI support in most parts of our infrastructure and also are planning this year to add EAI support into the registry. The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ or the Technical Center of Internet’s speaker could present this topic in details.

Proposal for discussion

Assuming UA is relevant for TLD operators, presentation and discussion on current state of play and what needs to happen to make a registry UA ready from a technical operational perspective. Invite members of ICANN UA technical expert group, and one or two registry operators (cccTLD and gTLD)

Suggest this is main topic for discussion tomorrow on the UA call
