Dears,
I hope my email finds you well, yesterday meeting seems to be a good start for ccNSO UAC with passionate diverse of volunteers supported by a great ICANN staff.
Based on yesterday discussion regards to UAC chair and vice-chair nominations , I ‘d like to nominate myself for the UAC chair position and below is my short bio as well as my
views how could it goes for ccTLDs to start being UA ready.
---------------------
Abdalmonem Gallia’s professional career started at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology where he held several roles including technical lead
on several projects in many governmental organizations and engaged with ICANN activities since 2010. He is the first-ever recipient of the ICANN’s Tarek Kamel
Fellowship Recognition.
Currently, Gallia holds the position of Numbering Planning Manager at the National Telecom Regulatory Authority of EGYPT, Numbering Affairs department
responsible for operating and maintaining the .masr (.مصر)
IDN ccTLD of Egypt.
As an ICANN community member, Galila has been an active Internet evangelist at various forums such as the ME DNS Forum,
Universal Acceptance Steering Group, AFRALO, ME-Space , *TLDs and *IGF.
Galila holds many roles at ICANN, like GAC alternative representative of Egypt, vice chair of UASG Email Address Internationalization WG, UA ambassador for the 5 Year, (.مصر)
IDN ccTLD representative of Egypt at ccNSO and was a former UASG vice-chair.
Galila used to conduct many international sessions (International IGF, African IGF, *NOGs .. etc) ,trainings , hackathons, hands-on workshops and engaging as a technical
expert for any issues related to the project of Universal Acceptance.
Gallia is also a member of the Task Force on Arabic script Internationalized Domain Names (TF-AID) ) that focuses on technical issues and
solutions to promote Arabic IDNs, their secure deployment and ease of use for the community, as well as an observer of Security, Stability,
and Resiliency of the DNS (SSR2) and DNS|DNSSEC Trainer at DNS Entrepreneurship Center (DNS-EC).
Galila had many contributions at the international UA-Day like regional UA-Day at Yerevan- Armenia, National UA-Day at Dodoma-Tanzania and UA-Day at Sierra Leone.
---------------------
Covid-19 has its cons and pros, one of these pros that now all services went online whatever it is a local use services “Education, Health, Academia, Governmental, …etc”
or internal one ( E-Visa, Online Shopping …… etc. ), so local users is related mainly to ccTLDs whatever the languages they prefer to use for domain names and email addresses,
while international users could use any of the scripts available, so how could local users use their own languages to go for the governmental services for example !
how could these citizen as well use the new trend of gTLD’s whatever it is long or short or whatever the language !
UA from my view is not only a technical requirement but also, I believe it is also a tradition change requirement as SW developers traditionally used to use the old-fashioned API’s
that are
not UA-Ready and that APIs technically could not process the new trend of domain names and email addresses in a consistent way.
Going towards UA adoption is a collaborative work combined from different stake-holders in order for going green for UA whatever this work is related to ccTLD’s or gTLD’s.
So, it is our role now as ccTLD’s managers to adopt and encourage for UA locally as a 1st step then cooperate for the good practices for the UA adoption
specially that all governments are going dramatically towards digital transformation projects.
My view about the future of UA within UAC could start with the following :-
---------------------
For sure above is just on-fly thoughts about organizing the work for UAC with all of you and ICANN staff and it is
my pleasure to help by all means,
I ‘ll be happy to answer any question related to that.
If there is any issue, do not hesitate to text me anytime.
Have a nice day.
Thanks a lot.
All the Best,
Abdalmonem Tharwat Galila
