4.            Looking back at UA Day 2025

Abdalmomen: I attended UA Day trainings in Somalia, Rwanda and another country. I conducted 4 trainings. The most successful one was the one in Somalia. Excellent planning, participants from various stakeholders. They are a developing country, and need encouragement to go one step further. They are well under way.

Sami: report on UA day.  See also our presentation at ICANN83.

Maria: Yesterday I took part in the North American UA day. Organised by several organizations, including CODI and another coalition. About 20-30 participants and slightly more online. Known speakers. Steve Crocker, George Sadowski, Vint Cerf, Theresa Swinehart. Moderated by Ram Mohan and Christian Dawnson. Discussion on AI and language learning models. How do they help to solve problems? What are the challenges? CODI launched a website. I did not get more info on their activities. Discussions referenced UA and EAI, but it was also a wider discussion on language models.

Qing Cai: I was at UA Day in Vietnam. APAC DNS Forum took place as well. On 8 may, there was a global panel on UA. Anil joined among others, also tech engineers from META and other experts. They spoke about the multilingual internet. What has been done in the past 10 years by UASG, and what will the future bring? Adam spoke about the importance of UA. META is paying more attention to the multilingual internet. They do a lot of support for ccTLDs. But they have similar issues, such as the one in China. Code is complicated. They want to help the internet technical companies to support UA together. I also joined sub-sessions. Together with .th we spoke about what we do in terms of UA. using IDN domain names. What are the opportunities? New business case for IDNs.  lots of technical discussions around the topic.

Also, In China we have IDN emails to the public. Just published on our website. Difficult. We cooperated and overcame many issues. In the gateway there were many issues. We introduced our experience during that meeting, and launched the initiative. We showed this to our registrars.

Joke: is the information on your website also available in English?

Qing Cai: yes, it is.

Maria and Qing Cai exchange EAI e-mail addresses with eachother, and will test.

Regina asks Qing Cai to share materials on the UA library, if relevant

Sabrina: in a few weeks, there will be the global IGF in Norway. We have an accepted workshop.
