Meetings post ICANN81: 27 November, 11 December 2024, 22 January 2025, 5 February 2025, 19 February 2025, ICANN82 (March 2025) Bart: apologies for the late start of this meeting. Regular cadence is 2 weeks. Was a good idea to meet before istanbul. Sorry for missing the call next week. Proposed meeting pace Abdalmomen: long break end of the year. Do work offline in the meanwhile. Bart: ok. Let’s see closer to the end of the year. Bart: 13 UTC. does that still work? 3. Continue discussion Survey or ICANN82 Consultation re UA readiness
status update regarding UAC brainstorming
Bart: we will go over the current state of affairs. Final decision in Istanbul ccNSO Universal Acceptance Committee (UAC) Saturday, 9 November 2024 | 09:00-10:00 local Reference to mentimeter exercise. Good opportunity to share your views at the same time. Variety of views was very interesting. Various topics that you wanted to discuss with the community. Type of info you intend to solicit from the community. Whether that would be via a survey, or via another tool. What made it more difficult is the ideal target audience. It is a core question. Who do you approach, and for what reason? Different views. Tech staff, email service providers, etc. idn cctlds, not limit to ccTLDs…. You might converge to a view. however , the question is whether the survey would be the best tool to use at this stage. Taking into account the results. What do you want to do with the survey? Again, different views. Something to consider, also for future discussions. Challenges for UAC? Limited number of responses. Again, that reinforces the statement on whether the survey is the most practical tool to engage with the community. Challenges for respondents? Hand in hand with “who do you target”? Seda: Another session where the UA program team organizes will feature a panel on UA Day. FYI UA Strategy: Capacity Building Initiatives<https://icann81.sched.com/event/1p2Cn/ua-strategy-capacity-building-initiati...> Monday, 11 Nov 2024, at 10:45 - 12:00 local Bart: Any questions regarding the UAC brainstorming session, and the results? None
proposed way forward, alternative to a survey
Bart: at times we use for other WGs other methods. Including for UAC in Kigali. Using mentimenter to seek interaction with the people in the room. Almost like doing structured interviews. Specific, relevant questions. In prep of the meetings 3 weeks ago, we came up with this “test set of questions” to seek interest from potential icann session attendees. Just an indication of the question one could ask the audience, regarding UA readiness. Bart shows a proposed high level session outline and mentimeter questions. Alternative path. Use testimonials to illustrate (lack) of UA readiness. You need meetings to prepare a good session at ICANN82. Abdalmomen: any thoughts? None Bart: let’s continue the discussion at ICANN 81. In preparation of that meeting, let’s elaborate a bit more the consultation. Let’s take a final decision in Istanbul. Abdalmomen: sounds good. Abdalmomen: any feedback regarding the prep week session? What could be improved? What went well? Seda: important to show the collaboration. Working together on UA. happy to see new members here today. Positive feedback in chat In future, have more updates regarding the UAC activities. Showcase your work. Only needed if there are meaningful updates to share The panel for ICANN 81 looks like. Increasing number of event proposals from ccTLDs. Showcase how ccTLDs can contribute to UA Day events. Setting example for ccTLDs Bart: when will the selection be completed? Seda: about 110 proposals. Review until 8 November. Mid-november the short-list. Publish end November. UA Day events March, April, May Bart: ccnso held a webinar on 18 sept. maybe do another webinar early February. These are various UA days in your region. Ask ccTLDs who organize an event. Heads up prior to the call for proposals End January, after 5 Feb. Good idea? Webinar as follow-up? Seda: works. Regina: agree Maria: nice. See which cctld that will do soemthimg. Motivating to others. Webinar can cover who is going to hold events, how to join them. UA day is in place since 2 years: registries sharing their experiences what they did. Bart: refer to Kigali meeting. https://ccnso.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-2-06sep24-en.htm Abdalmomen: 2 testimonials. Additional ccTLDs who will prepare for 2025. Past and future in the same webinar. Bart: new work item 4. Preparing for ICANN 81 a. Feedback UA Community Update Session,30 October 2024 b. work session ( Saturday 9 November 2024, block 1 9.00 am local time ( 06.00 am UTC) i. agenda: decision on topic ICANN82, and start prep ii. Review work-plan & potential new items UAC Work Plan, March 2024 https://community.icann.org/x/UIfxDg Bart: let’s review where you are with respect to the work items that are already identified. A new webinar would be a short-term work item. Bart: we will circulate the current workplan prior to the meeting. iii. Confirm Meeting schedule post ICANN 81 C. UA Strategy: Capacity Building Initiatives: 11 November 2024 at 10:45 Maria: for UAC update session in future, it could be good to show the content of the UAC Library and what documents are already available ther Regarding the surveys. We participated in the centr surveys. UA implement, IDN implementation and the technical part. What does it mean for a ccTLD to be UA ready. Such surveys are usually about registry systems. E.g. website, whois, rdap, mail systems. Usually these questions are for technical staff. I think it is better to have separate surveys. Do not mix them. Abdalmomen: as per the UAC charter we do not need to overlap with other efforts Bart: prior to starting the discussion, this group looked a the EURid world report an the icann survey. Avoid overlap with these efforts, and others. This reinforces the bit about not using a survey as a tool, but rather seek an interactive consultation. More of a marketing operation. Do not repeat what has been done. Maria: our focus on non-technical issues? Bart: not necessarily. Abdalmomen: mail server. Scope of the ccnso. Ua readiness for ccTLDs. UAC is the window. 4. AOB Seda: UASG working groups. Discussion on developing the UA progress indicators. IDN ccTLD registration data. Can they get it? See how many IDN ccTLDs are registered? Can ccNSO discuss. Secondly, the EAI guide. Can ccTLDs use the EAI certification guide through the email services they are currently using. Can they promote the guide with the local email service providers. Bart: have you tried the GSE people to contact them directly? Seda: have not thought about that. Can check. Regarding the certification guide. Local initiatives in Rwanda and Thailand. Early adopters. 3 levels: silver, gold, platinum. Medals. https://uasg.tech/eai-certification/ Maria: Could we add CENTR and IDN world report results into the UAC Library Joke: To suggest new content for the UAC Library, use this template<https://community.icann.org/x/UIAvEQ> and send it to ccnso-uac-submissions@icann.org<mailto:ccnso-uac-submissions@icann.org> Bart: perhaps this could be a testimonial at ICANN82 Maria: We use an external software provider. They implemented EAI. we use a platform to provide test email addresses in cyrillic to local developers who want to test their platforms or update their products. Seda: Anawin had presented the eAI self certification guide experience on the latest webinar of ccNSO for UA Day Abdalmomen: testimonial for production by Anawin, and a test one by Maria Bart: nice approach to get ready for ICANN82 5.
